MISCELLANEOUS INFO
[attr="class","omapponemisc4"]
- Local attorney extraordinaire who got tangled up in a very risky business of defending criminals as a profession because of the shady deals of his now dead father he legally inherited. He can't believe it either.[break][break]
- Jai is a full-blooded, glasses-wearing, sweater-loving, divorce-having nerd of the classic variety. Spiced up a little bit with some stiff drinks and a lot of spicy self-loathing which isn't all that new to the mix, but certainly became more noticeable ever since he got roped into defending murderers in court. [break][break]
- His best friend is one Benjamin Church and they have been thick as thieves ever since they were little soft-bellied babies. They share almost everything, including a divorcee status and complicated relationship with the judicial system. And Ben's sisters, but that's kind of a given.[break][break]
- All in all Jai is a shy, socially awkward potato carved in a way that makes him look like a human being, but if his high-class nightmare of childhood taught him was compartmentalizing on a master level. So while he can barely believe he has managed to talk somebody into marrying him in the past, he seems to be a completely different person in court - calm, collected, domineering, and very sure of himself. He's a walking master thesis in psychology waiting to happen.[break][break]
- He isn't alcoholic. Yet. But so far he hasn't found a better way to force his brain to relax, and his life has been getting more and more stressful every day.

[attr="class","omapponetabs3"]SUBJECT BIOGRAPHY
][attr="class","omapponebio"]
[attr="class","omapponebio1"]
- Jai was born in New Dehli, as a firstborn son of a spry and ambitious Harvard alumni working to establish a net of international law firms connected with a spiderwebs made of money and borderline illegal deals. Oh, and his mother was also there, but it wasn't like Jai was ever given much time alone with her. He had to "focus on what was important," his father always said, and a healthy family life was never on his list of priorities.[break][break]
- The Kapoor moved from India to Seattle when Jai was four years old, in order to make it possible for Kapoor senior to chase a lucrative business opportunity he never really bothered to explain. This sudden uprooting and drastic change to their way of life left little Jai lost, confused, and terrified of pretty much everything and everybody - the fact that his English wasn't all that great by that time didn't help, either.[break][break]
- Not everything was terrible and causing Jai to develop an early onset of anxiety, though. It was around that time when he met Benjamin Church - a curious little kid with more spunk that Jai thought it was allowed to have - and initiated a friendship that lasted a lifetime. And kept Jai from completely crumbling under the ever-growing pressure from his father.[break][break]
- At school he always had to be at least a year ahead of a curve. It gave him panic attacks, glasses thick like jars, and amazing tutoring skills he rarely used. His nerves were ruined by the time when he entered middle school and never recovered.[break][break]
- His mother died when Jai was fourteen. She fell down the stairs. He found the body, because his father was working overtime. It wasn't something that either of them ever talked about.[break][break]
- Jai's first taste of independence and life away from his father's disappointment and demands came when he started studying law. As the only son he was meant to inherit the Kapoor law firm, so there was never any discussion possible about him studying anything else, but Jai never really complained. Not only because his father made sure that Jai was biologically programed to fear acts of disobedience, but also because he thought it was a nice direction to go in life. He wanted to help people, and his brain has always been the only tool he knew how to use.[break][break]
- The news of Jai being in a relationship with a man wasn't the reason why he and his father has ceased any contact when Jai turned twenty seven. What caused this social disowning was the fact that despite everything Jai has decided to marry Eric. [break][break]
- His relationship with Eric has been already dead and cold by the time they said their vows, but Jai was determined to make it work. They were together for two years, they lived together, Eric was Jai's way out of the incredibly unhealthy home - he wasn't ready to give all that up. So he gathered all his hope and optimism and suggested marriage, and it worked out. He was a married man.[break][break]
- For a year. Eric has given him the divorce documents exactly eleven months and three days after they said "I do" and Jai didn't have any energy left to fight for the scraps of whatever happiness they once had. It was over. And he accepted it.[break][break]
- Jai's life has been fairly calm for years after that. He worked, he occasionally drank, he realized what he was (a good attorney with a lot of childhood trauma, arms that looked nice in suits, and predisposition to addictions), and accepted it. Things seemed to be actually looking up for him. Then, seven months ago, he got a call from the Kapoor law firm, during which a sheepishly sounding woman informed him that his father has died of heart attack and his will was ready to be read whenever Jai could find the time to drop by the office.[break][break]
- He waited for a week before he dared to go there.[break][break]
- At first it didn't look bad. His father has left him everything he had - money and the law firm his father always seemed to love more than his son included. And Jai, being the poor, naive soul that he has always been, accepted it all. Because why he wouldn't? Suddenly he could afford an obscenely nice house with a great view and still have enough money left to survive until his next paycheck. It felt like the first good thing his father did for him in his life - died.[break][break]
- The law firm had issues. Deeply rooted, running under the pristine surface, twisting in the dark holes in legislations, just waiting for Jai to discover them like a surprise apple pie served in the garden of Eden.[break][break]
- His father had a deal with the Revolution. Safety for legal guidance. Jai didn't know how they came to be other that his father met and did business with somebody near the top of the operation. And now he was running the show. He was the Kapoor who had to be always ready to advise and protect whoever he was ordered to.[break][break]
- He abhors it. He abhors himself for not coming up with a way to get out of that one last chain his father put on him. But there are few things less paralyzing than fear.
