He doesn't waste food, and he's extremely smart with his money. He knows what it feels like to go hungry, to watch your own mother have a stroke and not receive proper support, and have your father walk out the door. Despite this, Robert was always told that had anyone else grown up in his circumstances, they wouldn't have turned out like he did. That he was incredibly strong. He didn't know what to think of it besides that he did what he had to do to survive.[break][break] COOKING had always been a talent of his, since he was little. His older brother was skilled as well, but never took it as a career option. Robert worked as a dishwasher at 12 years old, and climbed to line cook after that, hopping between a variety of run-down family restaurants as his family of three moved around. His mother struggled to find work, due to her constant pain. [break][break] HIGH SCHOOL is shit for everyone, but Robert learned here that he had a talent for hardwork. He did an apprenticeship while in school, leaving early to go to work while his friends went out or played video games together. Graduation meant a straight skip into post-secondary - no gap year for him - and after three short semesters of two-months each, he jumped into the cooking industry, highly recommended by his professor and colleagues. [break][break] CLAIRE was the girl he loved for four years, who left him to pursue her dreams of backpacking the world. A long distance relationship was out of the question. They had been perfect - maybe too perfect, never really fighting or having any major disagreements, but Robert took that to mean they were great together. He wanted to marry her, but she traded him for the world instead, and now just under a year later, he's only just getting over her. The last year of his life was rough going and depressing, despite his promotion to sous-chef at a well-known seafood restaurant in town.
