MISCELLANEOUS INFO
[attr="class","omapponemisc4"]
- More often than not he wears his emotions on his sleeve, and only sometimes intentional.
- He makes dad jokes constantly, and yes he expects you to laugh at them or at least chuckle - although the typical snide remark wont offend him entirely. Some people just don't understand how funny he really is.
- He isn't fond of guns or violence, and never has been, but he understands that it is a part of life, and a part of his work. In a perfect world he would imagine there would be no need for guns or violence, but alas the world they live in is definitely not perfect. He puts a great deal of faith in humanity, regardless of whether it's deserved or not. There is always a little good in someone. There just has to be.

"First of all I'd like to start by saying, thank you for allowing us to speak with you Officer Cortes. We understand you have a busy job."[break][break]
"It's no problem at all. It gets a little stuffy in the office. I'd much rather sit here and chat with a pretty lady instead." He smiles and loosely folds his arms across his chest, giving his interviewer one of his classic 'Gabriel smiles'. He could tell it flustered her a little, but he could also assume that maybe it was just because his forwardness wasn't usually expected to begin with. Either way he likes that he got a little laugh out of her, as she brushes him off with the wave of her hand and returns attention to her list of questions.[break][break]
"Anyway, we have a few questions to ask you. Mostly general things to give the public a better understanding of what kind of people represent their law enforcement. We'll give you some of the easier ones to start with. Where are you from?"[break][break]
"If you're asking where I was born, then I'd say Spain, but my parents immigrated before I could have memory of it. I grew up in California until I was old enough to get into high school, then moved to Washington to finish the rest of my schooling here. My mother would always complain about all the heat, but little did she realize she'd be trading it for all this rain instead." He smirked, and watched as she smiled. It always amused him that something as simple as the weather was so easily relatable, no matter who you were.[break][break]
"So, did you go to college here as well then?"[break][break]
"Yes. I wasn't the best at school, but I came to appreciate how hard my mother worked to get us where we were. I didn't want to disappoint her."[break][break]
"You speak as though you're father wasn't around. Did your parents separate or?"[break][break]
"No they...my father died of lung cancer when I was sixteen." He didn't know why he was so surprised by her question, but it through him off. He didn't get the chance to settle the tenseness in his shoulders before he answered her. It made his voice sound nearly agitated. He bounced back quickly though, easing that tension from his frame with some amount of force as he looked at her. "He was a good man."[break][break]
"Oh..I'm sorry for your loss...After college did you always plan to join law enforcement? Is this where you envisioned yourself to be?"[break][break]
"It's no problem. No need to apologize." He adjusted in his seat, fixing his arms over his chest just slightly. "Not at first no, but for me it just started to make sense. I like helping people, and being a part of something greater than myself, to help my community, it just felt right." He paused as if he were done speaking, but the woman across from him could tell he was rolling something around in his head. She didn't ask any more questions so soon, and because she wasn't interrupting his train of thought eventually he did open his mouth to continue. "After I graduated I couldn't see leaving my mother here in the city alone. Our family is close, and since the rest of my relatives are still in Spain I knew it wouldn't be right to part ways. Family is important to me."[break][break]
"Do you have any siblings?"[break][break]
"I do. I have a younger sister." Surprisingly enough he didn't go further on that subject. It was clear he didn't want to delve into the topic of his kid sister, and because of the obvious signals he was giving the woman across from him she hesitated to even pry.[break][break]
"Does she live here in Seattle?"[break][break]
"Yes." He usually didn't mind reporters, and though he'd been fairly candid thus far this was one subject he was not going to continue. With his one worded response it seemed she got the hint.[break][break]
"Okay, moving on to the slightly more serious, then we can wrap it up Mr. Cortes. What do you believe that law enforcement represents to the people of Seattle? And what is your view of the cities current political climate?"[break][break]
That those were both pretty loaded questions. He certainly didn't want to get fired after this. He hesitated to think before he spoke this time, which wasn't something he was good at, but he tried. "In my opinion I believe the police represent what the people expect of us. Member of their community that put our lives on the line to protect them. I can't speak for my personal political leanings, nor do I entirely care for politics either way, but the people should know that regardless law enforcement will have their back. I have faith in my coworkers, and in the civilians of the city. We have a good community here, and it makes me feel proud that I get to look out for them."[break][break]
"Thank you, so much for your time. That was..inspiring. Lastly, where do you see yourself in the future? Do you plan on staying in Seattle?"[break][break]
"I would love nothing more than to stay in Seattle, yes. There's work for me here, and I don't entirely mind the weather."[break][break]
"I think that will do Officer. I'll leave you to your work now. Thank you again."[break][break]
"Please, you can just call me Gabe. Are we done? ..I can take the mic off now right?" -ffft sst ff-
..."So, I was wondering. Would it be too much to ask if you'd like to grab a cup of coffee sometime?-"[break][break]
