Even in sickness, Alexis had her priorities - always in the wrong order. She should have been at home wrapped in a blanket
with Häagen-Dazs ice cream and binge-watching all her Mad Max movies. Instead, she had decided to go… shopping. After putting on foundation, drinking a honey-based drink and mulled wine, filling her bag with all the necessities, and putting a black Vogmask filtering mask. She wasn't that irresponsible.[break][break]

Jogging towards a car, she slowed down then got in, greeting the driver with a small nod. The second later, she was dozing off in the backseat. As a coughing fit shook her body, she closed her eyes. She suddenly missed menstrual cramps. At least, when she had them, she knew why she felt on the verge of fainting or death. And the suffering lasted for a short period.[break][break]

Alexis slouched in the seat, her left hand playing with her cellphone. As soon as the car stopped in front of a designer boutique, she put the device on airplane mode and swiftly left. It was either food, alcohol or shopping. From her point of view, the last option looked like the most reasonable one. It would only harm her bank account. Perhaps the time to search for a side job had come.[break][break]

Perhaps it was just the time to look for the right dress before passing away. If she was about to draw her last breath, she wanted to do it in style.[break][break]

Her eyes caught another customer while she moved in the alleys at a snail's pace. But her gaze shifted towards several dresses. Maybe a little black dress?[break][break]

Clothes took over her mind. As if she wouldn't push herself while her hands were holding an Alexander Wang's dress. Fingers caressed the fabrics, ran over the hangers. She suddenly stopped. Someone and she had grabbed the same dress. Her gaze trailed to an unfamiliar face. She didn't know her, but she definitively loved her tastes. And if a mask hadn't hidden her mouth, the other customer would have witnessed a smile crawling over her lips.[break][break]

Instead, Alexis gave her thumb up, then made her way to the shoes' corner. She picked several high heels before nodding her head.[break][break]

A burning sensation in her throat? Feeling her eyes had turned as red as a rabbit suffering from myxomatosis? Nothing stopped her from heading towards the dressing cabins.

There were more people cooped up indoors as a result of the sickness, of course, than the ones who were actually sick; a matter of isolation run up tight with the idea of preventative measures. Born of the same, she figured, all while one spoke of consideration and the other wreaked of paranoia. While Maxine held no personal stake in the threat of herself catching Seattle's whirlwind of not-exactly-pneumonia (what was a little cough compared to the lion's den that was the political climate? child's play, that's what), however, her newly-acquired guard had been very adamant on limiting her time outdoors only to what was necessary for her work and, with her own shudder of disdain, work relations. Had she been a well-behaved woman who understood that warnings were issued only out of concern for her well being, or a well-behaved woman who did not hate her own guard and wish to spite him at every possible turn, or a well-behaved woman who wasn't secretly thrilled at the tiniest touch of rebellion sprinkled into what otherwise would have been a perfectly normal outing in town, she may have just considered actually taking that bit of advice and staying safe at home where the germs could not get her.[break][break]

Needless to say, Alexis was not the only one out and about against her better judgment.[break][break]

Not that the politician could have known that their situations were similar at all she they first bumped into each other, sizing up the same Alexander Wang dress with appreciative eyes in a decadent clothing store that had... likely taken a customer hit on account of the city quarantines. She didn't even see the mask over the woman's face until she was being flashed a... thumbs... up? Unsure of what to say or how to respond to that, she mirrored the action with a weaken raised thumb of her own, and to herself felt a bit relieved when the blonde abandoned dresses in favor of shoes and accessories across the barren store. From here, it almost looked like they were the only ones inside, or at least just about. Freaky what a little cold could do to a town while the media focused its efforts on fear mongering.[break][break]

Tragically, the sizes for her prime pick of the day consisted of just about every size that wasn't her own, jumping from the one just under to two sizes too large. Something like this certainly wouldn't look acceptable baggy, but it was – well, it was too perfect to not at least attempt to try on.[break][break]

Another point in the “acting against her better judgment” column. Five minutes later, cooped up in the dressing room, and Maxine found that her zipper, at its halfway mark refused to budge either up or down. Too low to tell if it was a good fit yet; too high to properly get the darned thing off if she ever wanted to leave in her original attire. “Excuse me -” She started, daring to poke her head out of the stall to search for the typically present dressing room assistant... only to find nothing. None of the other stalls were filled; perhaps the lack of extra staffing was on account of the lack of customer activity in the store? Dammit.[break][break]

Fortunately, even if there was no assistant, there was one other person in the general vicinity, looking as though she was bee lining toward one of the numerous empty changing rooms herself: none other than the masked blonde stranger she'd bumped into earlier. A thumbs up was... acknowledgment, right? Maybe it wouldn't be too presumptuous to ask... “Oh, hey! Didn't get your name, uh... Do you... have a second?” Or a hand, may have been the better question, eyeing the other's spoils of war in arm. “Wardrobe malfunction. Don't think the scary lady up front will be too happy with me if I rip this dress in half trying to get out.”
