Sounds of light rain and car engines were overpowered by the clacking of Valerie’s keyboard. The weather, as usual, was depressing, and Valerie was stuck inside. She couldn’t seem to get used to the constant rain here, or the colder average temperature. It was spring for Christ’s sake, but the high temperature was around 10 degrees Celsius. Sending off her last email, she stood up and rubbed her arms. Time to turn the thermostat up. [break][break]

Still shivering as the heating system took its time to warm the room, Valerie stood by the window and watched the rain fall. The people outside didn’t seem bothered though. She sighed. The window fogged up, making her blink. Why was Washington so cold? [break][break]

At the sound of a bell, she got off the window. “How may I help you? Yes, it’s just me working here. And yes, I am competent.” Valerie turned around with a lopsided smile. But the joking attitude disappeared as soon as she saw the man who had entered. “Holy-” Though Valerie would like something to do, this was ridiculous. “Are you okay? Come this way.” Valerie led him across the room and motioned to a door.

Sensation was fleeting and the sole thing Flynn could discern was the searing pain from the rain stabbing into his wound repeatedly like a thousand flying needles. He couldn't remember how he had gotten here or how long he had been there, but the time he spent hazy on the cold wet ground seemed to tick slower with every waking moment. His chest violently pumped rhythmically as he attempted to gather the strength needed to pick himself off the asphalt. Indistinguishable screams and gunshots from afar echoed closer and closer. Adrenaline immediately settled in and the redhead managed to crawl back up forcefully.

"Fuck," he cursed under his breath as his mind finally began to process a million factors at once. The mission was merely a few words exchange from a triumph ending. The location for the next drug shipment was moments away from being revealed and Flynn was ready to call it a day with another case seized successfully. Who knew a third party would arrive with guns blazing? There was no prior indication of such information.

Using the support of the walls and alleyways, Flynn let his feet take him to the one place he hoped that would be a lifesaver. He had complained to Markus about the potentially shabby doctor and the suspicious practice when he first brought up the topic of potential injuries. But now? Now, he could almost kiss the man out of gratitude because any distance further than this clinic would have been a road not taken featuring a liter of blood lost.

Flynn held himself steady against the door as he pushed the bell with the help of his elbow. "Anyone in?" He croaked desperately. A wave of relieve washed over him as soon as he was met with a friendlier face. He followed the other despite not being able to decipher the actual words that were said.

"I-I'm fine." He added though it was clear to see otherwise. He continued to self report in a nervous frenzy. "Gunshot wound to the shoulder and um I think there's an exit? 'M not sure, but my back's been bleeding like stuck pig so there probably is?"
