no one wants to see the way society keeps spreading the disease.
Theobold felt like throttling the next person who'd ask him, 'How are you?' It was a terrible attitude for people to pretend they cared even a little about the lives of other people. The crime was ten times worse when they blatantly didn't care, but asked anyway. What sense was there in asking, 'How are you?' if none would then spare the time to listen to him whine? Theobold knew he did nothing but whine, but he was all right with that. It was his way to only ever share things he cared about, and he only cared to complain about this country that warranted so many complaints. The streets smelt of coffee and perspiration. The latter hardly surprised Theobold: all these pigs running about was explanation enough. But coffee? Why on earth would anyone ever drink coffee to go? Was there need for all the haste these cityfolk loved? He knew he did not come from a large and bustling city, and Theobold was all the more thankful for it now. This city, at least, had failed him miserably. The one thing it had succeeded at was meeting his expectations head-on: as deplorable and detestable as he'd thought. By the street side, a man looked at him with empty eyes, holding up a cup. Theobold clacked his tongue. "Bugger off," he growled. "If it's sympathy you want, I have none." The beggar lifted the cup a bit higher. Theobold shook his head and walked on. WAVERLY KENT

Her eyes crinkle in the corners, her grin widens. It's blinding, bright enough to cut through the thick Seattle fog. Her passenger tells another joke, and Waverly almost falls out of her seat laughing. Her squeals cut through the loud music playing in the car with them; she accompanies the chorus of some cheesy pop single with another fit of giggles. [break][break] her passenger is smacking her thighs, and Waverly is shaking her blonde mess of hair back and froth as she tires to control herself. They laugh louder, snickering and falling into another laughing fit, but throughout all of this neither notices the boy. They don't notice his slumped shoulders or the red light he waited for to cross the street. They don't notice any of this until Waverly opens her eyes to see him. [Break][break] Suddenly they aren't laughing. Her passenger is screaming until her throat is raw while Waverly is swerving the vehicle to avoid him.

no one wants to see the way society keeps spreading the disease.
There was a gurgling behind him. Doubtless the hobo wanted to say something, but Theobold doubted it'd be anything important.
"Watch out!" A coarse voice.
Theobold had little time to think about the man's enunciation: a car came hurtling towards him. As if everything in this world wanted to convince him America was pretty much the worst country in the world.
There was a lot Theo had wanted to say about this, but all he managed was, "Oh."
The car swerved past him and came to a screeching halt not much farther away. To the side, the hobo stared with wide eyes, his cup dropped to the floor, mouth hanging open.
Theobold stood frozen as well, trying to process what had just happened. He realised that America had just shown him another side of itself that he couldn't appreciate.
It couldn't even kill him properly.
