Rox took a slow drag from her cigarette, smoke clouding in front of her pale eyes. It wasn’t like she was in a particular hurry to get started. She could play whenever she wanted to. Unlike when she played at venues, there was no pressure for her to perform to a certain standard. There was no time limit and no crowd. Just the people walking past catching a mere snippet of a much larger picture. A few seconds of something that went for much longer, unless they stopped to watch for a few more seconds. Though, that didn’t happen often. Especially not at night. Everybody had places to go, and people to see. Sure, playing at a venue usually guaranteed some payment, but she wasn’t particularly in it for the money to begin with. The guitar case at her feet and the wall at her back were all she needed to have a good night.

Leaning back lazily, the blond dropped her cigarette stub to the ground and crushed it under the heel of her boot. Roxy idly flicked her thumb down in a quick strum, listening to the thrum of the strings before reaching up to carefully adjust the tune. Once she was satisfied with it, she started to play. It wasn’t anything that resembled an actual song, just the sound of her callused fingertips glancing off metal cords. Just for fun.

She let her fingers dance up and down the frets, plucking at strings at random. Quick and brief as she attempted to spontaneously string a melody together from nothing. Rapidly playing chords with increasing speed -- having fun with it, challenging herself just a little. Though, it was mostly just show off. Eventually, she settled into a familiar rhythm. The chaotic string of notes fell into a steadying line with ease. Like she was shrugging into a well-worn jacket. The process was mundane -- a habit she could fall back into effortlessly, yet intimately acquainted. A song she’d played countless times before.

The blond altered the lyrics to suit her, adding a few lines to a verse before cutting the chorus off short just so she could pluck at the strings of her guitar for a little longer. Pale eyes passively watched as people wandered passed her, some stopping to drop a coin or a note into the open guitar case, while others didn’t so much as glance up.

It'd been a while since he'd gone strolling around the city late at night. Most evenings he was caught inside nowadays, spending time either with Zero, the clan, or Aggie. It was... a healthy change. One he was all too willing to embrace. Sure, he and the midge still got out every now and then to get their usual fill of drinks and trouble, but Zero's schedule hardly left time (or energy, for that matter) for screwing around off into the wee hours of the morning, and as the days went on the same was becoming the case for Everett as well. Although he still had his fair share of difficulty with getting a full night's worth of sleep, Everett didn't spend his troubled moments dillydallying around anymore, trying to find answers where there simply just weren't any. Life had taken a sharp turn on him, but he truthfully couldn't say he'd have it any different at this point.

So what had tugged him out tonight, one might ask? A bit of chit-chatting with a good friend he'd made at a venue which he had stumbled upon back when he'd initially arrived in Seattle. The two of them had simply talked about everything and anything after bumping into one another, the topic shifting from music to relationships to gas prices, back to music and... well, you got the idea. They couldn't shut up. The man had been incredibly kind to him when he'd walked into the small hole in the wall the very first time, and since then Everett had felt a persistent need to actually try and do his best to keep up a decent relationship with the guy. So far, things had been going rather smoothly. They weren't too far off each-other's ages, and while the ease didn't quite compare to the friendship he had with Zero, the dude was pretty damn cool and worth keeping around.

Upon realizing the hour they were rapidly coming upon, Everett had said his goodbyes and cleared out. He had an early morning with some recording plans, and he wanted to at least try and get a little bit of shuteye if even remotely possible. It likely wasn't going to happen, not in the way he wanted, but the kid could dream. He shot Zero a quick text saying he was on his way home, just to let him know somebody wasn't trying to break in if he was already curled up in bed, and moved onto messaging Aggie next. After sending her probably one too many emojis, he slipped his phone back into his pocket, readying himself for the small trek back to his apartment. While he could easily snatch a cab, the night was clear and the breeze was light. He could spare fifteen minutes or so for an easy walk. Maybe the city would offer him a bit of inspiration or something.

Even if the type wasn't always his cup of tea, the singer genuinely enjoyed hearing others playing music on the side of the street. Sometimes there were true, amazing artists at work, some who merely enjoyed the act for what it was, and others who were trying to really get their names out there. Everett had spent a good few months strumming things out on the sidewalk. It took a fair bit of guts, especially considering any passerby could entirely ruin your time if they really wanted to. He hadn't done it for long, not after finding the rest of his band and devoting his energy to actually making a place for them in the music world. But he remembered how it'd been, and he could still appreciate everything that drifted into his ears. Especially at that very moment, when it was undoubtedly the work of somebody who knew what they were doing.

Curious, he glanced once at the time on his phone before figuring he could take a slight detour. It's not like it would change much, right? He could get a peek at whoever was playing and then continue on his way. Easy-peasy. Shoving his hands in his pockets next, Everett wandered over to where the music was originating, recognizing the song's lyrics as he grew closer. There were some adjustments here and there, but between the impressive guitar playing and the familiar words left in their original order, he knew what was being sung. Under his breath he mumbled the song's other half left unsaid, smiling a bit at the complimentary tones. Perhaps he would have to see if this person was up for doing any collaborations, though as he drew upon her he second-guessed himself. Fuck. She looked way too awesome to get involved with somebody like him.

... Then again. Was this an opportunity he could really pass up? In this business it was all or nothing. If anything, at least asking couldn't hurt. Pausing a few feet away, he leaned his shoulder against the brick and rested his weight fairly heavily, watching the way the blonde's fingers skimmed over the strings. She definitely didn't appear to have any hiccups in her rhythm, and that spoke of experience and skill. Everett was, simply said, thoroughly intrigued.

He didn't know when, exactly, he had passed out, or for exactly how long he had been taking an impromptu nap in a... less-than-desirable place. It was earlier than usual, seeing as the crowds were still shifting and the night raged on around him, but then, so, too, had been the start of his drinking spree of the day. When it came to DT and drunken naps, usually nothing shy of the Devil's own carnival with all all its whistles and whoops could dare try to rouse him. That he woke now to the strumming of a nearby guitar and the typical bustle of passerby was something of an oddity. Miracle, maybe. There were far worse alarm clocks than the playing of a musician who knew what they were doing, and no matter how much fatigue tugged on his heavy lids, he wasn't going to simply curl up and go back to sleep – not surrounded by garbage bags and wet stains from unidentifiable liquid as he was. His bottle from earlier? Left out, half drank. Still good. With a grand, sweeping gesture capable only of someone caught between hungover and still-a-little-drunk, he set off on his journey.[break][break]

As it turned out, the journey was laughably short, and the player – who had transitioned from something more akin to a complex solo into the familiarity of a structured song, albeit one he did not know – was only a corner or two away, back against the wall, playing to a crowd of mostly disinterested strangers. It was a shame just how much talent went overlooked in the world, the blond thought with a frown ghosting the lips, shadowed by the glimmer and glamour of glorified trash. Not the music, never the music, but oh, the golden calves people who lay themselves down for these days. Unfortunately, he, himself, didn't have the funds to pay them a proper tip; the last of the money he had managed to scrape together had gone into the half-finished bottle clutched sloppily in one hand. All he could offer was a lift of the bottle, a nod of the head, a tug of the lips... and a butt planted down closer than any sober person would deem acceptable. Sure, there was room to play, but it wasn't like playing an arm's length away from a homeless person was anyone's idea of a good night.[break][break]

As the final notes of the white-haired stranger's song died out, DT figured it was a better time than any to address an elephant in the walkway: namely the man staring across the way, making no move to come closer, yet no move to leave.[break][break]

“'Ey! Stop bein' a creep!” Jesus hollered, barely managing to turn any more heads than the busking he was (hopefully not) interrupting. “C'm'ere an' tip 'm already.”
