Leticia massaged her closed eyelids with the tips of her fingers, letting out an exhausted, impatient sigh. She knew she shouldn't have stayed stayed back at the office so late filing the Rutherford report last night. She looked thoroughly and utterly out of it, having not bothered to try hiding the dark circles under her eyes - makeup had never been her thing anyways. Wasn't as if that'd address the essence of the issue that was sleep deprivation.[break][break]
What did address said issue, on the other hand, was the large Thai iced coffee sitting beside her laptop on the counter in front of her. The officer always picked this particular establishment for her meetings whenever she had the choice - although it was an exceptionally small place, with only 4 to 5 booths in total, there was a certain je ne sais quoi about its minimalist white backdrop, its sunny, cutesy, stylized decor, and its all-too-familiar college and high school student clientele and waitstaff that made her feel calmer than if she were discussing a case over the hectic backdrop of, say, a Korean barbecue place or the bourgeois setting of a traditional Mediterranean restaurant.[break][break]
And so, she sat in one of the booths in the corner of the cafe, resting her elbow on the table and her hand on her cheek as she scanned the case file on her laptop through half-lidded eyes, pausing on occasion to take a sip from her now half-full drink.[break][break]
Despite her age, the blonde cop somehow managed not to look out-of-place amongst the dispersed groups of Asian-American students that made up the majority of the cafe's demographic, what with her casual attire, half-awake demeanor, and compact figure - despite the fact that she was likely twice as old as a good portion of them.[break][break]

He was late.[break][break]
The Latina had been waiting a total of 17 minutes for this 'Detective McDuck' to arrive, and so far, nothing. Not even a text reply confirming he'd even read the message she sent. She let out another impatient sigh, lifting the straw to her lips once more as she absent-mindedly scrolled through the case file.[break][break]
The diminutive SWAT officer certainly wasn't one for punctuality herself - much to the chagrin of a certain red-haired Senior Officer back in NYC - but it didn't seem like the whole '10 minutes early is on time, right on time is late, and 10 minutes late is fired' that had been drilled into their collective heads at the Academy back in Brooklyn had carried over to the West Coast.[break][break]
She watched from behind the screen of her laptop as the sizable group of teenagers and young adults that had arrived 10 minutes ago decided to head out, laughing and chatting amongst themselves as they left, leaving her the only customer in the cafe.[break][break]
