I KNOW I TOOK THE PATH THAT YOU WOULD NEVER WANT FOR ME

"Hey! Let me through!"
[break][break]Honestly. Police are such a handful.
[break][break]Of course, she appreciates their function in society. They are warriors, people who fight to maintain peace in the country. She has them to thank for trying to keep Seattle safe to the best of their ability. Without them, more crime scenes would be unavoidable. Simple civilians would do nothing but panic at the sight of dead bodies, and there would be no one to keep them in control. They take action against the threats that arise, and it further more helps in the peace of the city.
[break][break]But Athena is not just any civilian. She is a woman with a job: to record the various incidents that have happened all over Seattle. She writes about them, to alert people and tell them to be careful. Incidents happen all the time. People needed to be cautious when they should be. They also need to be told of the people who had died because of these incidents, and should they not want that to happen to them they should take extra caution.
[break][break]That's why she's annoyed. She's annoyed with police keeping her out of the way. She wants to find out what happened. A body of a young man was found just yesterday and police are making a move to investigate the crime. Of course, as a journalist, she should be there. But they always get in the way. They won't allow her in and join the investigation.
[break][break]"Now listen, I came all the way here and-- hey! Are you even listening to me--! Hey!" Athena screams at an officer who walks away with a wave of dismissal. Just like that, the conversation ends. She huffs and crosses her arms, pacing back and forth without knowing which way she is supposed to go. Other journalists are there at the crime scene and they have been rejected authority just like she had been. But she doesn't care about that for now. Honestly, she doesn't care about anything anymore.
[break][break]"Honestly, you all are so stubborn." She grumbles, her voice kept low to not offend nearby officers. But she wants them to hear. She wants them to know of her irritation to their attitude, and she's pretty sure other reporters are feeling the same way.
[break][break]But that's the hard part here. They wouldn't listen.

"Bear left on Schwarz Avenue."[break][break]
The high-pitched whine of police sirens could be heard as an obsidian-colored Honda Civic zoomed past the busy intersection, making a protected turn past a number of high rise apartments before cruising slowly down the road towards the scene of the crime. Its operator, a tan-skinned, well-muscled bear of a Police Sergeant, Ethan Ravenhurst, eyeing the scene as they approached. And sitting in the passenger seat, thumbing through Reddit with seat reclined and feet kicked up on the dash, a diminutive blonde-haired Police Sergeant.[break][break]
At a glance it would have been nigh-impossible to know that the pair were indeed colleagues of equal rank, given their starkly unequal stature and demeanor from one another. For all anyone knew, they could have been father and adoptive daughter, when in fact the two were less than a decade apart in age.[break][break]
"Remind me again why I'm the one driving, Buenaventura?" Ravenhurst tilted his head to glance over at her and inquired over the sound of El Sonidito playing through the radio.[break][break]
The woman gave a noncommittal shrug in response. "Ethan, I don't think I'd be able to see the passenger-side mirror with you riding shotgun."[break][break]
"That is...a pretty good point, actually." The man conceded after a moment, swiveling his head back to look at the road ahead.[break][break]
Barring the exponential spike in mind-numbing clerical duties, being a Police Sergeant wasn't bad at all. One of her primary gripes with her previous job had been its straight-backed, yellow tape-ish nature - all these rules, procedures, protocols. She was expected to behave a certain way on duty as well, all uptight and tight-lipped. It wasn't her style. Aside from the increased income, her new rank meant she now had managerial and supervisory power. In layman's terms, she had essentially reached the paygrade where she could tell HR to fuck off without immediately losing her job, and the fact that she wasn't expected to act like she had a stick up her ass anymore was probably the best part of her new position. That was Hana's shtick, not her's.[break][break]
It also helped that she hated patrols; despite what the rookies were told in Police Academy, patrols were just loafing around in case something happened, except you had to look like you weren't actually loafing around despite the fact that everyone and their mother knew you had fuck-all to do.[break][break]
Oh, and fuck those uncomfortable patrol uniforms with their stupid tucked shirts and silly-looking hats and dumb belts. At least her Marine fatigues had been designed to be comfortable; police uniforms looked like they were designed by the Queen of fucking England. Another inconvenience of her previous position that she no longer had to deal with; HR couldn't make her wear the uniform, so her typical ensemble - form-fitting black jeans, a grey T-shirt, combat boots, and her signature long navy windbreaker - was all she needed anymore so long as she had the badge.[break][break]
"We're here." Came Ravenhurst's voice as the vehicle purred to a halt outside the building.[break][break]
And so the pair exited the vehicle - the man by opening the door and stepping out, his posture upright and hands clasped behind his back, dressed in the spitting image of a police officer, and the woman by opening the door and hopping out with a languid yawn, her posture slouched and hands stuffed in her coat pockets, eyes half-lidded and with a bored expression upon her youthful visage. It was vaguely comedic how different the two were from one another; Ravenhurst stood well over a foot taller than his colleague, their respective postures only serving to accentuate the wild difference in stature.[break][break]
Immediately, she was approached by one of the patrol officers on the scene as her colleague sauntered off towards the scene.[break][break]"Good timing, Sergeant. We've got the press hounding us for info, so if you could go and humor them for a bit, that would b-"[break][break]
"They don't pay me to babysit reporters, Ishikawa." The Latina cut him off simply, placing a cigarette between her lips and lighting it as she spoke.[break][break]
"But- Sergeant Buenaventura-"[break][break]
"Can't one of you do it? Or Hell, get Ravenhurst to talk to them? He's better about talking to the press than I am." And with that, Leticia began to make her way into the building.[break][break]
Damn, it feels good to be a Sergeant.[break][break]

One could not just convince a journalist to step away from a crime, even if they most intended the job to be left alone to the police.
[break][break]"We have a job. We need this crime on paper."
[break][break]And that's exactly what makes her work difficult. They have the crime, but they don't have it on paper yet. All because of officers not wanting them to have a look. Her higher-ups had tried this before; it's annoying for the newer ones to try it again for them. Athena had gotten through many of these crime scenes, and again she'd gotten through so many moments of trying to convince the police to just give up some of the information. It takes an irritatingly long time to finally get their way.
[break][break]This day is no different.
[break][break]Right now, she's not even trying to argue with them for the time being. She listens with her eyes closed to the pleads of the other journalists situated around the corner, and she hears the police not confirming their passage. It frustrates her to be thinking about it. They've come from the office to write about a report and here they are, being turned down. Not the most wonderful of jobs to be in, but she's trying her best to be patient this time.
[break][break]( or maybe she's a little too impatient, the police may let them in once they're finally done. the thought emerges from the back of her head but she does not pay attention to it )
[break][break]It's then that another sound intercepts through the mingling of various voices across the crowd; she opens one eye and takes note of another police car sliding through the road, stopping across a part of the intersection. Reporters are starting to pile up along the newly-arrived officer's way. She sees a taller man and a smaller woman, their positions rather not alike. But Small Policewoman makes her way to the building, the crowd of reporters noisy and instinctively trailing behind her, with some police trying to stop them.
[break][break]Athena heaves a deep breath and stands up from her seat, patience recovered a bit as she makes her way to the horde of reporters trying to gain information from the newly-arrived policemen.
[break][break]"Excuse me? Ma'am, may we have your attention?"
[break][break]Her voice is one of the few who drowns into the other voices from across the crowd.
