On rare, perhaps fortunate days, Adrian finds herself mostly sitting around and filing paperwork. Occasionally erasing someone from the computer when no one is paying attention or wiping away a payment they owe. But, for the most part she updates profiles and doctors notes, helps the staff clean and then when someone does come in they’re seen relatively quickly. [break][break]
Though the scent of antiseptic is heavy in the air, there is a keen scent that clings to someone when they’re sick. Never one to think she had a strong sense of smell, but it was something she’d adopted over time. So when someone came through the doors sniffling and haggard from exhaustion and she could smell how whatever it is, clung to them, she was quick to help them out. [break][break]
But with a slow trickle of people and only midday, it seemed like it’d be a long, uneventful one. One of her coworkers taking off to grab them something to eat while the others meandered about doing odds and ends of things that couldn’t get done on busier days. [break][break]
So Adrian took up the wheeled chair, its cushion having gone mostly flat but far comfier than some of the other seats as she clacked away at the keyboard. Mindless filing, address inputting and if anyone came in she helped them register before her other coworker took them to the back to check them out. [break][break]
The sun against the window filtered in, warming up the room and making for heavy eyelids as she stared at the computer screen. Resisting the urge to place her head in her hand and doze off to the afternoon sun and the warmth that resided. When the chime filled the quiet building, as the door opened, taking away the warmth for a brisk, cool, early January breeze. Goosebumps dancing across her skin and waking her up from her half-asleep state. [break][break]
Their entrance was really the only noise within the building, save only for the quiet murmur of the television hung on the wall. Blue eyes flicking up to greet the person, the words fell out easy, politely. “Good afternoon!” And with enthusiasm. “How can we help you today?” A genuine smile behind the same earnest desire to help. But unlike the others they didn’t look sick, maybe tired, but that type of fatigue wasn’t from coughing up a fit all night. [break][break]
