Family

Aquila has 3 siblings, one older brother and two younger brothers. As the only girl, she was somewhat spoiled and definitely given more than her fair share of attention. This method of child-raising ended up giving her the stubborn attitude she has today and also gave her confidence from an early age.[break][break]

Aquila always thought her relationship with her siblings was pretty normal. With her two younger brothers, she would sometimes get into petty fights with, sometimes argue with, but ultimately make up with. Her parents also had her watch them from time to time, so occasionally she got a little bossy. She thinks they're cute, but also a huge annoyance sometimes. With her older brother, there was less communication, but there was also less fighting this way. Aquila saw her older brother as an equal, especially because she was constantly compared to him. Competition was never on her mind, but evidently it was on her brother's. It wasn't until she went to college that she finally understood how he felt about her.[break][break]

Aquila really regrets not reaching out to her older brother. She thinks that perhaps they could've reached an understanding, but she also knows that the younger her was self-centered and stubborn: not the most likable person. After her experiences in school and in college, Aquila really wants to reconnect with her family. She'd been far too career-oriented; taking family for granted. She just hopes it's not too late. School

In elementary school, Aquila learned what ostracism was. It wasn't conspicuous, as teachers made it out to be. It was subtle, small, and seemingly harmless. Nobody dared physically or verbally assault her; her parent's backing was too strong. But Aquila didn't fit in, and nobody cared to try to include her. She had "friends," who would start recess playing with her, but eventually make excuses and leave, or completely ignore her. Aquila was upset, but was complacent. She spent her time in the library instead.[break][break]

When she got to high school, she tried again to make friends. But it was the same cycle: people would have high hopes - seeing her quiet demeanor and good grades - but her harsh mouth would always drive them off. But Aquila didn't mind; she was used to it. She dedicated her time to her studies and found a passion: chemistry. [break][break]

She was determined to make that her major in college. She didn't have a clue what specifically she would do, but she'd figure it out when she got there. But her parents didn't agree. They felt she should do something of a higher social standing. Perhaps become a businesswoman? Aquila refused. It was also around this time that she started dating. He was somewhat flirty, but seemed like a lovely person. Emotionally, Aquila started relying more on him than her parents. [break][break]

When Aquila went to college, her relationship with her family was almost nonexistent. She avoided talking to them and spent as much time away from home as possible. Though she and her boyfriend went to different colleges, they continued their long distance relationship. Against her parents wishes, she took her classes with a goal of a Chemistry major in mind. Long-distance didn't work. They often couldn't find the time for each other, and ended up arguing for weeks over small things. The summer after their first year of college, they decided to split up. Also that summer, Aquila got an internship with a pharmaceutical company. Family connections were a help she grudgingly accepted. She learned about the process of making new medicines, how they were tested, and - most importantly - how they were patented and marketed. That last bit left Aquila disillusioned. But all good things come in threes, right? Aquila also found out just how much her older brother disliked her. [break][break]

Accepting the fact that their society was imperfect, but not that it would stay that way, Aquila changed her major to Legal Studies and went on to go to law school. Her goal was to fight corruption, especially where she saw it in the medical field. Focusing on her career helped take her mind off things. At the same time, she acknowledged the support a family can give, and realized that in this world, only family can unconditionally love you. Though she now wants to fix her relationship with her family, she has no idea where to start.
