Trying to please people who can't be pleased is a pointless task. It merely leaves one scarred and can give false hope to just about anyone. When it involves family? It is the most heartbreaking disappointment.[break][break]

When You Are Younger

Born into a family who were huge comic fans came with an unfortunate, and slightly funny name. Ironically, the family's last name was Stark; Tony Stark was the father's idol, they found out, so it was super fitting. Luther Grayson Stark, why they mixed DC into such a Marvel name, they weren't really sure. Elementary school years brought as much teasing as it did praised and adoration. They made friends on a dime and lived a pretty happy young life in the beginning. Even though they heard a lot of people making fun of his father for being in a wheel-chair, Luther would stutter about how cool his dad was. 'He's like Professor X from the X-men!' Ah yes, they did become a comic fan much like his parents. It was inevitable really.[break][break]

You'll Wish You're Older

Age 13 they realize they haven't felt like a boy for a long time. Nor a girl. They didn't feel like they fit anywhere. They didn't entirely understand what was going on for so long until they saw other people online talking about their genders or sexualities. At such a young age, one would think he was just going through a phase (it's not a phase mom!) but that... that wasn't it really. Luther knew then that they really didn't fit on a binary scale. His father was away on a business trip overseas for a retail company he managed in their town. So, obviously he was going to talk to his mother about it.[break][break]

Disgusting. What shame. You're just a kid, how would you even understand such things? Asexual, that's fake! Mother's words cut deeper than a knife ever could, they tore into the very heart that a mother is supposed to protect and cherish. They ripped apart the very soul that only wanted comfort and a hand to hold during such harsh times. Tears that were shed were both from confusion and anger. Why ocouldn't she understand how they felt? As quickly as they could, they packed a small bag and ran away to a friend's place. They didn't return until a call from his father rang his cell.[break][break]

Nothing got better. A fight between the married couple seemed to go on every night until it stopped, until she decided to leave. Luther had never seen their father cry so much, even when he had his episodes. Their father's PTSD seemed to only get worse after that, and nothing they said or did made anything better.[break][break]

And When You're Older

After Luther turned 16, news came to them about their mother's death. There wasn't much details spoken to Luther from their father, just that she'd been hit by a car on her way to work and didn't recover from the fatal injuries. Luther only had one question and it broke their father's heart. [break][break]

"Did she love me?"[break][break]

Highschool years were almost a breeze for Luther, finding almost every subject easy. Maybe it was because it kept them distracted from thinking about how they would never be able to prove themselves to their mother. Maybe it was because it made things better for them. Luther's father was proud, so that was all that mattered right? Eyes unfocused, yelling in the night, yelling... at them. Father loved them though... father was just heartbroken.[break][break]

You'll Wish For Time To Turn Around

Luther was accepted into a very nice college at just 17, a year before they would have originally graduated. When the school found out that they were going to be graduating early due to such stellar grades and musical talents, they were quick to accept him into their ranks. It made Luther fairly happy to know that people were excited for their entrance. Even their father was proud of him.[break][break]

Things never got easy for Luther, even after a year, they didn't want to be home, listening to their father get worse and worse. You know what the worst part about it? Luther feared that one day they would come home to their father having taken his life; he isn't sure if they would be able to handle this.
