In the midst of a lecture concerning hemoglobin and medication, a low insistent vibration spurred Fitz to wakefulness. He sniffed and lifted his cheek from the fist it was propped up against, casting a glance around the room as the professor spoke and the other students were either fighting sleep or busying themselves in other ways to avoid being kicked out. Stealing a glance down at his pocket then to his seat partner who he was almost certain was asleep with her eyes open, he slipped his phone out of his pocket and turned the brightness low, reading beneath the table. The messages came from an UNKNOWN number, nothing out of the unusual in the slightest, but upon opening the thread -- coordinates, a map, and instructions written plainly greeted him and that was odd.
Sure, there were the odd clients who would all him needing to get patched up and requesting him to get there as quickly as possible. And there were others who sent him directions to places that he was absolutely never going back to and had no idea existed in the city until then. But, he never was given instructions to pay a visit to someone's house to check up on their health. Questioning orders was above his paygrade though, and with a quick message to his mother and sister then another to Kai, he excused himself from dinner and a late studying session. It wouldn't be a long bike ride thankfully and after the medical scare a little while back, he kept his supplies close at hand in case anyone needed a medic. Although, it was harder to explain why he had things to treat burns or bullet wounds but that was easily waved off as preparedness for anything.
Rather than a practical need because his co-workers couldn't stay alive to save their lives.
Once the lecture ended, Fitz made a beeline to the student parking lot and unchained his bike, taking another quick glance at the instructions as they were given.
REPORT TO XXX XXX, XXXX and assess PENELOPE BURNS for mental and physical health status. DELIVER results to Headquarters.
It seemed pretty straightforward although he wasn't certain why this Penelope couldn't go to medics stationed around the city. Swinging onto his bike, he left the university quick and practically glided through the streets. With a lack of traffic due to the time of day, he was free to take the back roads and ride as quickly as he wanted, his legs burning at the force applied to pedal faster. There wasn't a time limit but the feeling of the wind in his hair, the warm summer breeze heating his skin, and the world passing him by was intoxicating. Beneath a wide blue sky, dappled with white fluffy clouds and the sounds of the city -- the occasional car, a stray cat knocking over a trash can as he passed by, the splash of a puddle as his bike wheel passed through it. It was a perfect day to just ride and if he didn't have somewhere to be, he might have.
Nonetheless, he came to his destination and slowed to a stop outside of what looked like an ordinary house. Bringing his bike inside of the gate, he tucked it behind some bushes and stood back to ensure that it was hidden enough that no one would notice it quick enough to snag it. Glancing over his shoulder though, the question arose of how he was going to do this. He couldn't just knock on some girl's door and tell her that he was there to check up on her even if they were part of the same group. That was just plain creepy.
But there wasn't any other way, it seemed. Walking to the front door, he raised his fist to knock before the door swung open and a man stood in front of him with a pensive stare. Frozen in mid knock, Fitz didn't know what to do with his hand so he quickly dropped it to his side and gave a quick crooked smile.
"Hi, I'm here f-"
"She's upstairs," the man interrupted, turning on his heel and walking further into the house, leaving Fitz standing dumbfounded on the front step.
Glancing around as he stepped aside, he closed the door behind him and hesitated by the staircase, watching as he disappeared down the hall as swift and silent as a shadow. Everything about this screamed wrong to him but denying orders was not an option. Climbing the staircase, he glanced around at the walls for any pictures or something that made this more of a home and less of a bad decision. The second floor was no better, and as he looked at the room doors, he came to one and figured to try his luck with a quick note.
"Uh.. Miss Penelope? It's Fitz from well.. y'know. Are you home?"
