the anxiety is palpable within the confines of the car. his fingers drum against the steering wheel, a quiet staccato that he barely notices. over the course of the drive, he has decided to wind the window down, then up, then down, then up again. he shifts in his seat again, resisting the urge to floor it and go tearing past the road that leads down to the estate; to speed off into the night and ignore what he has begrudgingly agreed to do for the revolution. he doesn't, though. what he does do, instead, is exhale softly in a sigh, and without taking his eyes off the road, respond, "it's alright. hopefully there isn't any cat hair left on my jacket, i swear i double-checked before we left." [break][break]
he's already plenty distracted, with every thought of how the evening could go wrong running amok in his mind, but he doesn't tell her that. they crest the hill, and abruptly, the estate looms into view. it's a long driveway still, which means more time to discuss their plan in whatever modicum of privacy they have. when the party actually starts, he has a feeling that that will be in short supply.[break][break]
"i reckon we do it afterwards," he says, in the tone of someone slowly resigning himself to his fate. "it'll give us more of a chance to establish an alibi." there's a pause as he turns the car, staring out at a sea of other fancy, shiny sport cars. thank god the doctor had supplied their ride for today. he's pretty sure his mini wouldn't have cut it. "say, did we ever get sent the floorplan of the place, or are we flying blind in there?"
