Maybe. She was young, and she didn't understand that her father just wasn't into raising a child. She was the only one, thank God, and her mother ended up raising her most days. When she was a baby, the two worked together. I mean, he'd be considered an asshole if he didn't help out with a crying infant, right? As well as that, she was diagnosed with an acute form of albinism. Only her eyes are truly affected, and he just didn't want to deal with it. As Finnley grew older and less helpless, that's when her father started to slowly fade from the picture. He'd claim he "wanted to go back to school" so on top of work and his school, she'd rarely see him. She'd be passed off from babysitter to babysitter as her mother tried to make money to help the family out and pay for her doctor's visits. They were on the cusp of lower-middle class, too "wealthy" to receive aide and too "poor" to make it by comfortably. Finn would soon come to realize that her life just wasn't going to be easy. THIS TIME I FEAR, YOU WON'T BE BACK ANY MOREBy the time Finn was in middle school, her father had completely left the picture. Her parents divorced, and with no struggle at all, her mother gained full custody of the girl. It was both a happy and sad time; her mother was just being dragged down with the weight of having to support the whole family as her father threw them in debt. But with him gone, it was a new slate, a new picture. A new chance for them to get better. Finn, however, had still suffered the emotional stress of not having a stable home life, and she began to act out in school. It wasn't so bad in middle school. She'd get the occasional detention from swearing at a teacher, or bullying other kids. It was when she got into high school that it grew worse. She began to ditch school nearly every day. The bully became the bullied. [break][break]High school is meant to be a time for growth, for change and for new experiences. It wasn't meant for someone with a disorder, no matter how minor, to be ridiculed. Finn hated every minute of high school. The kids just didn't understand why she had to sit at the front of the room, or get extra time on her tests, or anything else that she had to deal with. She began to act out in more severe ways, starting with vandalism and eventually moving into arson. After being caught the first time, she was forced to move to a different school. It put more pressure on her mother, because it was a school that was not in the same district and so she couldn't take a bus or anything. Either she'd have to rely on public transportation, or her mother would have to take her. The latter was never an option because her mother always had to work early, and so, putting faith into her troubled daughter, she let her take the public transportation system. Growing up in LA had its advantages and disadvantages. Fortunately, the bus system was a pretty great way to get around, but for a teenager who already hated school, it was just an easy way out. There was nothing keeping her from going. She eventually dropped out all together. WHEN WILL IT END, YOUR LOVE CONSUMES MY SOULHer poor mother was at a crossroads with Finn when she dropped out. They both needed each other; but at the same time, her mother would not stand for such behavior. There wasn't anything she could really do for the teen; kicking her out was not an option. So she gave her an ultimatum; find a job or leave. Finn said she would find a job, but her days were spent lazing about at home, pissing around on her bass guitar and just being a lump. [break][break]It wasn't until her mother got injured that she started to realize what a shit society was, and what a shit situation they were in. Actually, she had always known about society, but "society" to her was mainly school culture and whatnot. The teachers, the students, everything about it was just not right. But when her mother got injured and should have received disability, but didn't due to "making too much money," Finn decided she had had enough of it all. The small ember of rebellion had burst into a flame, and she decided to get off her ass and try to do something about helping her mother. Unfortunately, that meant getting a job and whatnot, but what better way to burn a system than from the inside out. INTO THE FIRE, I'M BEING TEMPTED ONCE MOREBy now, Finn has grown in both years and maturity. She's passed the angsty part of her teen years, and has entered the middle of her twenties. She works at a local music store, quite fitting for someone like her, and she still tries to find ways to help her mother out in this corrupt corporate system. She knows she's part of something big, and something will be done soon.
