[break][break] she works a 6-day week in the district attorney's office and can be found either there or at a diner at 4 am with watery coffee, paperwork and a laptop. alternatively, she spends time off driving to and hiking at the national parks surrounding seattle because they're still novel even after 5 years of moving. [break][break][break] shed all your skin,your titles and your masksin short, valencia is powered by a combination of idealism and a martyr complex. perhaps it's a form of penance because she valencia will host monthly dinner party for close friends, but even then those have a particular pretentious, performative air to them. she's at her most genuine in casual, more intimate settings where it's easier to relax and she doesn't feel the need to be so on display. perceptive and considerate enough to remember everyones' birthdays and find suitable gifts, valencia herself mostly avoids opening up about personal details because she still can't deal with the concept of vulnerability. [break][break] this is actually what primarily keeps her from dating. on some repressed level, valencia a bit of a romantic, but she's just a wreck of emotions after her not-too-recent divorce and other neuroses. in other words, she'll go on dates that go well, but then go home and cry because the guy was "too good" for her. i'll also just note that technically she's bi, but she's also pretty much closeted because she's in denial about approximately 90% of her life.
