On the surface, Mason is a man best described as slovenly yet reliable. He is multi-layered, occasionally driven, with more to him than what initially meets the eye. He consistently acts somewhat off-beat and unorthodox for a person of his particular profession, but this belies an eye for specifics, an inextinguishable drive for accomplishment, and a ruthless sense of efficiency as the going gets rough. Indeed, when all the cards are laid down, Mason prefers to be the person who gets the last laugh at the very end.[break][break]
To this regard, he vies to be aware of happenstances around him, asks the hard and penetrative questions when they need to be asked, and attempts to scrutinize both the small details as well as the bigger picture. No stone is too petty to be left unturned, no lead too farfetched to pursue at an initial glance. This dogged approach to his investigations has landed the man in a troublesome situation more than once however, and he is equally as likely to go about his methods in ways that do not always conform with the tenets that a harbinger of the law must uphold.[break][break]
Outside of his duties with the police, Mason attempts to act somewhat more personable than more aloof coworkers within the force; aforementioned attempts at being more "personable" vary based on individual to individual, but he tries. No man, however, is a paragon, and in following this concept does Mason have a tendency to err, succumbing to some of his more base desires and fancies.

Somatic Report: To utilize the term svelte to describe Mason would be about as accurate as calling kimchi sauerkraut on account of what few similarities they possess as pickles. The man may be slender, but he is unimpressive at a glance; a touch more sinew than muscle, his stature and poise often leaves something to be desired. Again though, his slightly ectomorphic physique belies some semblance of strength gained through physical activity, however light in comparison to more mesomorphic figures. Proportionally, Mason's legs are longer than average, giving him a longer stride to his steps.[break][break]
A messy tuft of ebony hair sits atop Mason's head, its length just short of maximum regulation standards. Such an unkempt appearance, combined with his pasty skin, further gives off the impression of a less than intimidating individual, with a distinct lack of refinement expected by the perennial blue-blood, nor the haggard visage of those hard-boiled Sam Spade types as seen on television. Yet there is a characteristic coldness within his inquisitive grey eyes, contrasting with his occasional jovial expression.[break][break]
Garments: More often than not, Mason's panoply comprises the quintessential attire of a detective working normal assignments. A brown duffel coat for cold weather and a bespoke two-piece suit, combined with a pressed dress shirt and clip-on tie––a choking precaution––help exude a sense of professionalism, whereas the ankle boots he wears allows for a better degree of movement than leather bluchers may provide. In some instances however, he typically opts for similar clothing that he wears when off-duty; more often than not a simple hoodie and cargo pants, or when the time calls for it, a light windbreaker and cap.[break][break]

[attr="class","omapponetabs3"]SUBJECT BIOGRAPHY
][attr="class","omapponebio"]
[attr="class","omapponebio1"]
And his began in 1984.[break][break]
Mason was born to a relatively average lower-middle class environment within the city of Stockton, California, free of the clink of stolen cash or the cold steel of a blade. Family and warmth surrounded the man from his childhood onward, but it was not without its fair share of trials and tribulations. For as we all know, kids can be freakin’ assholes. And this child, in particular, was quite the royal pain.[break][break]
Perhaps it was a little too many idle platitudes of vague encouragement that reached his head. Perhaps it was a matter of simple curiosity taken to an extreme. It was often that little Mason would wander off on his own, sneaking through backyards, snooping around the neighborhood, and generally being a nuisance to his neighbors. Granted, it was nothing compared to the youth crime occurring in the neighboring suburbs, but his wandering would often lead to trouble, and on more than one occasion did the boy return home beaten and bruised, his hands and knees all scuffed and scratched up. Return a favor two-fold was a motto often espoused by his parents. Turning that on its head, did he return what he had been given to his aggressors.[break][break]
On March 3rd, 1999, a fire broke out in an abandoned warehouse near the city’s old shipyards. No casualties were confirmed, and to this day the exact cause remains unknown. But time moves on, and events are ultimately overshadowed. On March 8th, 1999, Timothy McVeigh was convicted of murder for his role in the Oklahoma City Bombing. On November 30th, 1999, demonstrations rocked the city of Seattle, amid the assembly of the World Trade Organization. On September 11th, 2001, a terrorist attack in New York sent the United States reeling.[break][break]
No one knows to this exact day why Mason decided to enlist after high school. Perhaps it was related to monetary concerns. Perhaps it was for a semblance of order amid the chaos of a financial crisis. Of what is certain is that he ended up joining the US Army’s 223rd as a human intelligence collector, staking out locations, interpreting information, analyzing sources, interrogating individuals. Although he did not see any form of action in frontline combat, the skillsets that he learned during his tenure with the 223rd proved invaluable. Among the more noteworthy assets included the ability to glean some information from observing general behavior. 70% of communication is conducted by the human body; it was just a matter of picking up those minute details and inferring from them.[break][break]
Stockton had changed by the time he was finally discharged. 2006 saw a rise in youth crime within the city, whereas the plenitude of foreclosures resulted in a surge of homeless individuals. The neighborhood that he had grown up in had succumbed to accelerated decay; those few that remained eked a meager existence covering their own tracks. By 2009, the city was declared 8th most dangerous in the United States. Later that year, it filed for bankruptcy.[break][break]
The skills that he had picked up were ill-suited for occupations other than law enforcement. And so did he put them to use. First as a patrol officer within the municipal police department, slowly rising up the ranks. Patrolling the projects and tenement houses gave way to investigating traffic cases, investigating traffic cases gave way to anti-vice operations, so on and so forth. Eventually, at the behest of a superior’s recommendation for lateral transfer––and severed attachments to his hometown, Mason departed for New York City. The Big Rotten Apple took its toll on the man however, and in the restructuring that occurred following a rather prominent case of corruption, Detective Hollis packed his bags for the Emerald City. [break][break]
