If ever there was the human embodiment of emotional repression, Anne would be it. She exudes every quality of a woman who has her shit together - organized, punctual, professional - and possesses a calmness about her that is described by some as almost ethereal. Renowned for her nigh-unbreakable poker face, she is incredibly difficult to get to display any kind of emotion that she does not wish to display; even spontaneous emotions like surprise or shock are either short-lived or absent altogether on her visage. She is often assumed to be in her mid thirties because of this, and others are often shocked to learn that she is in fact only twenty-one.[break][break]

Indeed, Annie is all business - almost scarily so, as she takes her job far more seriously than the majority of her colleagues. She is notorious for her stubborn, relentless attitude towards the cases she's assigned to, this alongside her decidedly lone wolf attitude causing her to clash with her superiors, who often find her doggedness to be exhausting, on more than one occasions. Her personality occasionally draws resentment as well, with more than a few of her colleagues back in NYC having come to resent her for her ambition and astonishingly quick climb from Cadet nobody to rising star of the NYPD, viewing her as stuck-up and snooty.

All this aside, there is absolutely no denying that Anne is anything if not reliable. Intrepid and resourceful, she possesses a sharp intellect and even sharper wit, both within a brain that is filled to the brim with technical knowledge. She works very well under pressure; self-discipline comes almost naturally to her, and she has an acute level of impulse control to go along with it, allowing her to keep calm and make rational, level-headed decisions even in incredibly stressful situations. She is the first to react when things get serious, and often serves as the voice of reason when things become serious.

That said, Anne is by no means a robot, and nor does she lack flaws. After all, one can only bottle up one's emotions for so long before consequences begin to arise. She has paid for her hard-headed, one-woman-army attitude and workplace excellence, with her social life. Anne is a terribly solitary and terribly overworked person; her acquaintances within the Occult Crimes Division are just about the only people who come even close to being considered "friends", and even those people are confined to her work. There are emotional problems as well that come with emotional repression and solitude. Humans are social and emotional creatures after all, and Anne is deprived of both of these things. Beyond professional interactions, she is just about socially-inept, unable to hold a casual conversation that has nothing to do with her interests for very long, and despite her intelligence, sarcasm and humor tend to fly over her head on occasion. She can be quite distant, even aloof as far as human interaction goes, keeping others at arms' length at best. Additionally, Anne's status as an emotional brick wall has caused her to develop an acute, deep-seated fear of displaying any sort of weakness, both to herself and to others. She also has a extreme fear of embarrassment, and is very self-conscious because of this, adding even further stress to her daily life. On top of all of this, without a single shoulder to cry on or friend to confide in, Anne is forced to deal with this stress herself, leading to many a night spent crying silently into a bottle of Jack Daniel's.[break][break]


Despite her ironclad poker face, there are ways to get a rise out of Anne. The most reliable method of upsetting her is by using the nickname "Max" to refer to her; for reasons she refuses to disclose, Anne absolutely cannot tolerate being referred to by this name regardless of the context, and calling her Max multiple times is a surefire way to make her angry. In addition to this, Anne keeps many, many secrets, moreso than your average detective, and prying too hard can also draw her ire. Nudity is also something she absolutely cannot tolerate under any circumstances, and she finds excessive profanity to be distasteful at best.

Somatic Report: Anne's appearance is one that, in various aspects, both confirms and defies expectations. While her taut, serious, hard-nosed personality gives rise to the mental image of a angular-faced, narrow-eyed woman in her forties with thin greying hair tied in a bun, this couldn't be further from reality. Indeed, she is a very pretty girl at first glance, with a youthful, almost baby-like heart-shaped face, with large eyes, a small mouth and button nose, and thin, well-trimmed eyebrows, that would almost certainly get her mistaken for a high school student were she to dress the part.[break][break]

The most striking aspects of her appearance, however, are her hair and her eyes, both of which are a pale lavender in color. It is unknown whether these are their natural colors, or whether she dyes her hair and wears lavender contacts for whatever reason; any inquiry regarding the matter is met with a stubborn refusal to answer.
