[attr="class","zineh1"]WELCOME TO THE[BREAK]WASTELAND!!!
[attr="class","zinearticle"]FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, WITH THE PEOPLE. WASTELAND, BABY is an privately-funded, independent magazine with a focus on facts. It's name comes from the idea that we exist in an information wasteland. There is so much information around us, but it seems like so much of it is absolutely fucking useless. WASTELAND, BABY aims to sort through all the shit, boil it down to what's necessary, give it to the people, and ask them: what do you think about this? [break][break] WASTELAND, BABY doesn't run ads, sponsored posts, and they don't charge for their magazines which are left in distribution spots around Seattle. Their website offers both an archive of old, out-of-print issues that can be requested and shipped to addresses for no charge, and electronic versions of all their issues in a variety of formats. WASTELAND, BABY wants what they print to be accessible to everyone, and anyone. In contemporary society, information is a powerful asset for the poor man and the rich man, but sometimes, only one of those groups get access to the information they need. WASTELAND, BABY aims to change that, one reader at a time.

[attr="class","zineh1"]THE ORIGIN STORY
[attr="class","zinearticle"]WASTELAND, BABY was founded over seventy years ago as a newspaper company, Walker News. It focused on local news, but found itself falling short because of larger, more well-known newspapers. The founder, Walker Jones, re-branded and attempted to break into a more niche audience. Walker News became The Smoke Break, a newspaper that focused on entertainment rather than news. It thrived off of flash-fiction, poetry, short comics, photography and art that allowed the reader to consume the entirety of the newspaper quickly and easily.[break][break] The change lead to The Smoke Break's success for a time, however, only a few years after the rebranding, Walker's significant other was killed in a hit-and-run, and despite being at the centre of all the buzz, Walker didn't see a single news article that gave the facts in a way he liked. So, he took it into his own hands to run the story in The Smoke Break, keeping the story short, sweet and simple, boiled down to only it's facts. [break][break] Walker found himself falling in love with the process that went behind the story, and quickly changed The Smoke Break's gears entirely, wanting to put focus on smaller, more personal stories that fell away from the public's eye and got pushed under the carpet at the behest of people in power. It was then, that he met the now long-time donors that turned The Smoke Break into WASTELAND, BABY.

[attr="class","zineh1"]BEHIND THE SCENES
[attr="class","zinearticle"]WASTELAND, BABY is run by a small, but dedicated group of people. The catch is this though: they're all anonymous. [break][break]Every article, graphic, photo, story and poem is accredited to an alias. Some are skeptical about it, they question if nameless, faceless content creators are trust-worthy, they wonder where their information comes from, and what their sources are. And that's fine to the current creators of WASTELAND, BABY. They don't work to please those who aren't interested in what they have to say, they work to give those who are curious- those who are questioning- a place to gather information and come to their own decisions. If you're not reading, then you're not their target audience. [break][break] Each member of WASTELAND, BABY's staff as a zodiac alias. After all, space is a wasteland too, isn't it? Could be, if you wanted it to be. There are no defined lines on who does what, as far as the public knows, but some members are more prone to certain things than others. [break][break] Air signs focus on editing, Fire signs focus on visuals, Water signs focus on writing, and Earth signs focus on news. There aren't defined rules to it though, if it's up to the standards of the editor-in-chief, then it goes through. It's as simple as that.

[attr="class","zineh1"]GETTING TO THE NITTY, GRITTY
[attr="class","zinerolestart"]fast facts about WASTELAND, BABY, feel free to suggest more/edits![break]- publishes weekly zines, which are compiled into a magazine at the end of the month. size varies, and they will NEVER put out a weakly done article. can't make a deadline? let the EIC know so they can find something to fill the gap.[break]
- while they focus on recent news, they've been known to run editorials and articles on past events. if they think a topic is interesting enough, they'll write about it. [break]
- readers can submit to the magazine at wastebaby@wastelandbaby.com, WASTELAND, BABY actively encourages this, and will sometimes add extra sections to highlight reader feedback. [break]
- employees are salaried, paid bi-weekly, but aren't rolling in the dough. they have life and health insurance, and are welcome to work other jobs while employed at the magazine as long as there are at least two zines published with their name in it. if they can't meet that, they must speak to the EIC.[break]
- employees can apply for grants to help fund their articles, however, any money not used must be returned, and those found taking advantage of the system will be fired.[break]
- WASTELAND, BABY's donors are a mystery to anyone who isn't the EIC. a once popular theory was that they're billionaire vampires who were formerly royalty of some obscure fallen kingdom, but that was shot down before the current EIC's era.

[attr="class","zinerolestart"]Titles and roles for each zodiac sign is 100% customizable. If you want to play a fire sign that focuses on news rather than visuals, that's cool! Want to do an Earth sign that focuses on editing? Also cool! Want your character to just be a journalist/reporter/photography/artist without any/too much power within the organization itself? That's rad as fuck!! Titles and roles are more suggestions for character ideas in case you don't have any. [break][break] taken | reserved | open
