There wasn't anything that beat being able to read at the library in her isolation and silence. [break][break]

Unfortunately by the time she arrived at the library, it started drizzling just outside the window. Eden couldn't help but to sigh softly at the poor timing - especially because she didn't have an umbrella on her. Usually she would have walked home with the books she picked out, but the spontaneous spring showers had her fear for the book that could potentially be damaged-- And her wallet, when she'd have to pay for said book. The fiction books weren't all too expensive, thankfully. The non-fiction on the other hand-- Their prices reminded her of the textbooks that she used to use when she attended university. Those were days that she didn't miss, in spite of the fond memories. [break][break]

... And it is due to those fond memories that she doesn't miss it, but she digresses. Today was the weekend; a time to relax when she wasn't busy burying her nose in books and case files that the conventional police refuse to look into. Whereas she'd love to work with the police themselves--.. There was just something about the law enforcement that she didn't like. Was it the fact that they were controlled by the ministry of justice? It only made sense- it was logical. Or was it the fact that she was fully aware of the corruption, to even the faintest degree? And as someone who paid close attention - too close, in fact, it could be a flaw - she ended up caring a bit too much. It's where the saying 'ignorance is bliss' comes in, and would do wonders for the girl who overanalyzes every little thing.[break][break]

Within a casual stride, Eden seats herself in one of the more isolated tables and begins to peruse through the pages. Her gaze, though intent and focused, was generally dulled down. The only type of 'spark' that should have been in her eyes was covered with the reflection of the words that fill the pages. In her silence, Eden reads through the pages fairly quickly - courtesy of her previous reading habits and exposure to a variety of literature. [break][break]

Nowadays, it's the only escape she had from her mind. [break][break]

Often times, she wouldn't let anything stray from her silent reading. The only difference today was that somebody - more familiar, might she add - chose to sit across from her at the table she chose to occupy. They weren't too close to the other people of the library which, on one hand, relieved her, but at the same time nearly ha her distraught. Nothing personal, but solely due to being around a person. Mmn.. She'd make do with it, she supposed. Thankfully, the first impression she had of this girl.. Aquila, was it? Yes, Aquila. A professional young woman who agreed with her in criticizing a certain Irish man's work habits and demeanour. [break][break]

If it were up to her, she would have gone back to reading and not have paid any mind to the woman in front of her, - save the subtle nod and small gesture of acknowledgement, - but caught in the corner of her eye (and piquing her interest all the same) was the titles sitting next to her, and the title in her hand. Those of previous crimes; historical cases that, as far as she was concerned, was never properly solved and the case, cold. The young woman's deep, amethyst eyes stay on the titles for a brief moment before she reaches her hand out, finger gently tapping against the table not too far from the blonde. "... Pardon me." She starts once she knows she got the woman's attention. "Where did you find those titles?" [break][break]

Hopefully they weren't the only copies that the library had. If they were.. Mmn.. It'd probably be rude and out of line for her to ask if she could read with her. [break][break]

Her curiosity needed to know some bounds, after all.

Eden listens to her words carefully, opting to give the slight nod of her head in appreciation and acknowledgment. The young detective pauses and lowers the book that was in her hands and begins to slip the bookmark into the crease against the spine. Unfortunately as she was about to close the pages, her ears catch word of the news that made the woman grimace a slight bit. She didn't know what she was expecting when asking about the section. Perhaps she was hoping to see if she could grab another book from there, if not pick up a copy of one of the novels Aquila was reading on. Although faint (in spite of her emotions, having died long ago), she seemed to lower her head in subtle disappointment. [break][break]

... It couldn't be helped, could it? She would just have to wait for her turn. On the other hand, she most certainly could ask Aquila and - by now, she probably made it obvious - it wasn't a secret that she was quite interested in the criminals that the books spoke of. The young woman catches herself, finally, after a few moments of staring at both novels. With the gentle shake of her head - and the same, ever-changing expression that hadn't left her features - she nods towards the blonde woman. "... Noted." She responds with; short and sweet, no need to talk more than she should. [break][break]

.. Is what she would usually do, but no matter how long it has been, there's always a faint echo of a voice telling her to speak more (the ripples of what strength she had left). In the spur of the moment and - after gathering enough courage to dare interrupt the young woman's reading - Eden re-establishes eye contact. Her fingers gently rub against each other - a sign of slight anxiety and nervousness, something that she has often tried too hard to avoid - before finally parting her lips to say "Both cases were.. Quite fascinating. I haven't gotten around to reading too much on th--.. Them. Erm.. Excuse me." She takes a deep breath, pulling herself back on track. "... Would I be out of line by asking if you could give me a brief summary of both cases?"

She doesn't know how to properly respond; she was making this uncomfortable, wasn't she? Eden was less keen on making small talk and more invested in getting a good book to read (for instance, one of the books that Aquila held in her arsenal). The seemed like the two of them had the same thought in mind, with a subtle sense of confusion hanging over both herself and the woman before her, partnered with an awkward bout of silence. Instead of immediately responding, Eden gave a slightly delayed, low hum of acknowledgement. Talking was not going to be an option, not when she found herself tongue tied so early into a conversation - could you even call this exchange a conversation? This was possibly the most she's ever spoken to someone outside of work, save for a certain eccentric man who was occupied - or should be occupied - with work at the police station. [break][break]

She pushes the thought of him out of her mind; at this point, he's turned into a distraction. It was nearly irritating at this point. [break][break]

Aquila's gaze meets her own, and Eden finds her reflection in those bright, near burnt yellow eyes of hers as she offers a slight - yet clear - reassuring smile upon hearing the girl stutter. There was nothing that irked the young woman more, yet she finds it oddly comforting to know that someone was patient enough with the stuttering. Unfortunately, rather than speaking, Eden raises her hand as soft, amethyst eyes skim the titles and covers of the books more carefully. Now.. Did she want to read on a cryptic killer who had fun poking with the police on numerous occasions and in countless letters, or did she want to read up on a ruthless murderer who aimed at those who weren't often known? [break][break]

Either way, both cases piqued her interest. [break][break]

Her eyes shifted back and forth from the books, up to when she gently places her fingers on top of the book covering Jack the Ripper. With how little was known about this case and with how it was a mystery unsolved. with the gentle hardening of her grip, and pulls the book closer to the person before giving the slight nod of her head towards Aquila. There was a brief pause as she picked up the book, internally debating on whether or not she wanted to open her mouth. The conclusion? She takes a deep breath, slowly beginning to turn the cover and past the first pages regarding information on the authors and such. "... Mmn. Less of interest and.. Something of a form of research." Her eyes slowly begin to skim the words, all while her own were hushed and soft to appease what should be the overall volume. "One of the past cases I've seen involved a man who had taken inspiration from Jack the Ripper, and another from the Zodiac Killer." She made quick work of the page, taking the information in stride before turning the page. "From brutal killings to the cryptic notes, over to the false confessions."

This.. Was the first time somebody actually asked her to get into more detail. Part of her was expecting the two of them to quietly nod and continue on with their days, reading their books in silence as they should be in the library. But no, that wasn't going to the case here. Eden sits on the opposite side of the blonde, quietly staring in a sense of subtle disbelief. "Erm.." The young woman starts, clearly needing a moment to gather herself after being asked something unexpected (unexpected to her; this was what they called "attempting at small talk", was it? She wasn't great at it). [break][break]

Eden glances at the pages quickly before nodding her head a bit. "Starting with Jack the Ripper, then." She gently flicks her wrist, referring to the book in her hand and unconsciously putting emphasis on it. "He was notorious for killing prostitutes. Unfortunately.. There aren't many details surrounding his cases, as they were fairly clean and the man left no evidence behind." as she speaks, her amethyst eyes skim the pages and contents a brief moment - more to ensure that her information were correct. It would be embarrassing and - god forbid, humiliating - if she had gotten this wrong after somebody asked her about it. Her right hand lowered from the side of the book, in favour of tracing her finger against the surface of the table. The movements were precise, however, imitating the pattern one would make for an incision for dissection. [break][break]

"He had mutilated the women, with careful removal of organs. As a result, the detectives thought that he was a man of medical background." By the tail end of the statement, she raised her hand again to hold the other side of the page. "Unfortunately, it was difficult. Due to the lack of evidence and the media sending false letters, writings and.. Hindering the case itself, the police couldn't get anywhere." As she thought about this, she couldn't help but lament over how pitiful both cases were. They lacked the technology to find the killers and, as though it weren't enough, the media was all over those two cases in particular. "The main difference between Jack the Ripper and the Zodiac killer, in terms of the letters.." She pauses, glancing towards the book in the blonde's hand. "Is that fact that the Zodiac Killer was significantly more talkative. Like he were playing with the police, whereas Jack was quieter. From.. What I've found, that is."
