Valerie enjoyed her job, she really did. Just sometimes it could be better. Her no-questions-asked policy attracted plenty of odd clients. But this one, she couldn't turn down. [break][break]
It was a beautiful night. The sky was amazingly clear for a spring evening, and the crescent moon shone down. A chilly wind picked leaves from the ground and scattered them unevenly across the streets. Even though it was past the bedtime of most decent citizens, the laughter and lights of Seattle nightlife proved that people were still awake. With her bright red lipstick, Valerie fit right in. A large, but rather cheap and gaudy purse, hung from her shoulder. [break][break]
Just bear with it, Valerie thought to herself. Don't want to stand out. Grumbling, Val hurried through the streets towards a certain building. Curse the revolution for dragging her to this place at such a time. It was a small operation; they just wanted her around in case anything happened. Information retrieval, supposedly. What information, Valerie hadn't the faintest idea. [break][break]
Just as she got to the building, a crash resounded through the air. Masked figures that she recognized as the people she was assigned to help darted from the building, scattering and hiding in the crowd. Well crap. She set her bag down and went to investigate. At the same time, a plainclothes cop (or so she thought because he was obviously in pursuit) ran around the corner. He stopped, scanning the crowds for the people he was pursuing. Not good. They'd be in trouble if he found them. Valerie had to do something. Looking down at her sneakered feet, she came up with an idea reflective of her mental age. [break][break]
A playful grin on her face, she ran up behind the man. “Tag, you're it!” With that, she jogged off in a different direction. “If you catch me, maybe I'll tell you something about those people!” Valerie briefly turned her head and blew raspberries at him. [break][break]
