Its streets were his veins, alleys his capillaries, the thrum of the rebellion's heart the pulsing of his own. “Born and raised” didn't cut it; it was far more intimate, with days and weeks, months and years spent mapping out its concrete map affording him omniscient knowledge of every place and person within Seattle's invisible walls. ( Or, at least, so he liked to delude himself into believing.)[break][break] There was little to be done between hits – guns, needles, all the same. Nikki's history and skills at dealing with others left him with few friends, fewer ideas of how to interact with others in a way that didn't involve hissing and kicking. He could wallow, he supposed, mope until his phone rang out hollow and he was called upon once more to enact God's righteous fury. He could also, however, go through a joyride down streets virtually devoid of life, weaving too fast through places long abandoned by upkeep and the politicians who directed it. Funding for something like a motorcycle hadn't been in his grasp just a year ago, and earlier than that, still, his parents would have never approved of such an inelegant choice of vehicle, but perhaps it was specifically because his father would have turned up his nose to the thought that he, himself, loved to ride it so much. There was something inherently “rebellious” about them to begin with, amplified by fictional portrayals and the “ilk” who preferred them. Rebellion boosted two fold, then, for something he would've never dreamed of doing as Obedient Nick.[break][break] He had nothing to fear out here, no one to watch out for or fret over. Places like these were always safe. Always empty. ( Or, at least, they should have been.)[break][break] A single moment of reckless abandon was all it took to spell disaster. Sure enough, in a place where no human usually dared to tread, a figure stood in the broad daylight, crossing the streets without a single care in the world. At this speed, the impact wouldn't have killed – bruised, likely, or sprained at the very worst – but even that was too much for a boy who likened himself as justice's ally. Instead, he tried too fast to slow down, too fast to steer clear. His vehicle rebelled against its rebellious owner, and – ah. So this was what it meant to suffer in another's name.[break][break] The bike scraped uselessly to a halt parallel from where it spat Nikki out unceremoniously, groaning in pain and seeing stars. Making her way past the downtown areas of this city through more desolate streets in order to switch up her usual route every once in a while was a decision Aister made out of precaution in case of the event that she were ever to be followed for any reason. As a member of society feigning an honest, law-abiding citizen's life, she didn't really ever expect to run into trouble, but drawing too much attention to herself and her lifestyle would be the first step. She walked briskly however, between the walls of a part of the city that saw minimal, if any, human activities, wanting to reach her destination before she might end up brooding over things in her mind unprovoked. With no chance of passing any faces by, pedestrian or vehicle, there was no need even, to do things like looking both ways before crossing streets in her eagerness to complete her trek through the city. That was probably a severe miscalculation on her part.[break][break]
It's not like she was normally a careless person. Aister always made sure to check all lanes, before and several times during, when crossing roads in the city. Even if the crosswalk stop lights gave the 'go', it was pure foolishness not to be prepared for some drunk or selfish driver to come speeding through with every intention of causing tragedy at the expense of other people's lives. But in a place with nothing but repeated vacancy around every block, and an atmosphere that urged one to get a move on instead of settling down, she had some reason to believe she'd be able to at least react to, far in advance, any stray vehicle taking a road less traveled for some unlikely purpose, even with her headphones over her ears. Relying on this reasoning was also perhaps a miscalculation, especially for someone like herself who was normally surprisingly cautious of the city she called her home and grown up in all her life.[break][break]
Just a few more blocks, and she'd be back on her usual route back to her own apartment. Aister paused to bring out her phone and skip the next track on her playlist. "Love this song, but not right now." High pitched roaring suddenly filled her senses, and Aister quickly looked up just in time to see a dark blur fly past her. Over the speed limit, much? Probably. Yet that encounter was just a little bit too close for comfort. Aister had no chance to rack her mind for her own carelessness in that moment just now that she could very well have been the victim of an avoidable accent. Not even an instant later, whatever unit just sped past on a black motorcycle, and barely missed hitting her, released painful screeches of metal on concrete and concluded with driver and motor vehicle gone their separate ways down the street a few dozen strides.[break][break]
"Oh...sh**." An almost whispered swear escaped past her hands held over her mouth in shock and horror at the situation that just unfolded. Aister trotted over to the driver clad in darkness, dropping her headphones down to her shoulders. Should I call the ambulance!? She was wondering. But this - this fallen rider was a familiar face that she couldn't ever deny to herself knowing. "D-dude, hey, are you alright!? Oh, it's you, Nikki, geez, um. Do you need me to call an ambulance?" With an expression full of modest concern, she peered down at the fallen man and offered a hand to help him up. Nikki, the Doctor's right-hand man. Almost like a teacher's pet, even, Aister sometimes thought, but without all the childish drama or bitterness that surrounded it, thankfully. Within their positions, they never before had the chance nor reason to talk to one another, but most everyone knew about Nikki within the revolutionists. "Orrrr should I contact Doctor X?" She asked, looking around just to double check that no more unexpected visitors were around to listen in on them.

Okay, well, no, that wasn't right: in a perfect world, he wouldn't have crashed at all, wouldn't have felt shame or pain even if he had, and she wouldn't have had to tear herself away from the screen of her phone for any reason at all. Of course, this was not a perfect world. A far cry from, in fact. It was a world where wicked man did wicked deeds without repercussion – where mother nature wilted at the selfish hand of humanity – and where Nicklaus Strauss crashed the company motorbike because he had no concept of watching where he was going. Yeah. Definitely not perfect.[break][break] “ D-dude, hey, are you alright?” came the stranger's shout, and the pounding of her feet against concrete sent shock waves that only served to worsen an very swiftly oncoming headache. By the time she was close enough to recognize him and call him by name, he'd scrunched himself up in a rather pathetic position on the ground, grimacing and clenching his teeth both at the ache of the crash and the fact that somewhere was there to see it. A sidelong glance revealed nothing he didn't already know: her voice was... vaguely familiar, and her face similarly so, more than he could say for any random passerby he'd ignored in his life, but beyond that, he was drawing up blanks. “ Do you need me to call an ambulance?” An ambulance? More people to laugh at his inadequacy and stupidity? There was also the concern of money – he was fairly certain he'd been kicked off of his parents' insurance on the same day his father had almost quite literally kicked him out of the house – but more importantly, the fact that he was convinced they would notice the track marks up his arm and shuffle him from a hospital bed directly into prison. Hospitals could do that, right? Definitely.[break][break] “ Fuck, no – no doctors!” he wheezed.[break][break] “ Or... should I contact Doctor X?” Well, fuck, that was somehow even worse. If there was some solace to take from all of this, it was that he was dealing with another revolutionist, and not a complete stranger who would likely press for him to be taken to the hospital. Would she press for him to report this, too? God, he hoped not.[break][break] She was looking for any potential eavesdroppers when he dared to open his eyes and look at her again, probably because of her mention of the Doctor, and while ten minutes ago he would have thought it pointless, his trust in the area had been broken and his faith in their solitude shattered. Even if she saw no one, it was probably better not to say much more on the topic. Just in case. “ N-not him either.” In a voice that communicated that he was very much not fine, he said: “ I'm fine, just... just help me up, would ya'?” He held his hand out to her as far as he could, wincing the whole while, and prayed she didn't put up a fight. Nikki may have tried to make a case for himself and his ability to handle this on his own like a grown man – who better to take stock of his condition here than himself, after all – had it not been for the fact that he was still using her offered arm as a crutch, unable to trust himself quite yet to let go. Curse it all! “ Nothing’s sprained, right?”[break][break] “ ’Sprained’?” he echoed, brows furrowed and eyes clouded with pain. What was she on about now? Might’ve armed you with a new weapon at some point or another.” The hitman screwed his memory for a time when they may have crossed paths, but of the few times his weapons of choice had needed a replacement, he couldn’t recall a middle man; just a knock at the door, a high haze in his mind, a fresh rifle or pistol packaged neatly on his bedside table. “ Nikki,” he grunted back in greeting, despite the fact that she’d already seemed to know who he was. After a few stabling breaths, he released his death grip on her and took a few lamb-like steps to test his balance. Satisfied when he didn’t fall earthbound in a matter of moments, he diagnosed himself as set to go – or as set to go as he’d manage today. Clipped: “ Don’t need help. S’my fault, anyway. Should’ve watched where I was going. … Sorry.”[break][break] He took one step closer to his abandoned bike; then another; then another, still. With each stride forward, the damage the vehicle had sustained became more and more clear, and even to someone as fish-brained as Nikki, it didn’t appear as though it was going to be suited for riding anytime soon. “ Oh, son of a…” he grumbled under his breath as he stumbled to a halt, tugging at one handle and cursing his inability to lift it more than an inch without disturbing his newly acquired injuries. He could leave it here, he supposed, but it wasn’t his bike to lose.
