What part of 'bite me' don't you understand?
[attr="class","CIVILIAN"] WHAT I MEAN BY TRACINGPAPER'S THAT YOU'RE SEE-THROUGH AND DISPOSABLE
Chick-a-dee’s fluttering through the air, their small tweets filling the area around where they flew and more so. Young feathered beings dipped and dived, but they stayed close to the trees that the older ones sat upon, beady eyes keeping a lookout for threats to the little ones. It was a calming noise and a sight to keep one busy if not just for a moment. Young life was always fresh for anyone willing to look at the simple things in life.
The sound was simply annoying to one small male, who had been listening to the annoying chirps since the moment he woke up that very morning. Alarm clocks were pestering enough, but the sound of persistent birds? Even more annoying. It was muggy out today, the overcast weather having been nothing but a bunch of bologna; there had barely been any wind chill during the late morning going into the afternoon, so the smart thing for the people within the shop was to keep the door open and welcome the people outside in with the air conditioning that filled the comfortable place.
Of course, Zero’s shift had ended and he had to go and face the outside death trap. Since it was just after four in the afternoon, he was in high hopes that maybe the weather would be at least a little bit better than when he’d gone on a smoke break around noon.
Shockingly? It wasn’t. Rubbing a hand over his face, Zero leaned against the doorframe of the back door to the book shop, eyes trained on the cloudy sky above. Of course the weather wasn’t going to actually be decent for once. This was Seattle after all, what did he really expect? With a very heavy sigh, the small male stuffed his jacket into his shoulder bag, mumbling to himself about how he could only hope to make it home without feeling like he would pass out; he was sure Everett wouldn’t appreciate having to scrap his body off the cement.
Zero was also sure that Everett would also probably do it anyway.
With that, Zero pushed away from the frame of the door, being quick to lock the door before he made his way down the alleyway to the street closest to him, checking his surroundings before he turned onto said street, making his way down passed the shops. Considering he was free for the rest of the night and tomorrow, he figured he would probably have a bit of time to kill; it wasn’t like he would have to be up early for any shifts tomorrow morning, so he could take his time getting home.
The short male stuffed his hands into his pants pockets, skinned thumb and metallic one hooked through the belt loops of his jeans, eyes cast to the side to look through the windows of the shops he began to pass by. One shop had various nicknacks that Zero figured would deem useless, another had signs basically yelling about some ‘cheap shoe sale! $50 off’, however he had a feeling the shoes would still be expensive as fuck.
Just as he was about to, you know pay attention to where he was walking, he bumped into something. No… Someone. And was currently trying to catch his balance so he wouldn’t fall.
“Ah. Shit.” He grunted, now turning his head to look at who he’d bumped into.

They say it's such a cruel world, but one good heart is plenty.
[attr="class","civilian"] [nospaces] [attr="class","rcposting1top"] [attr="class","rcposting1img"] [attr="class","rcposting1img2"] [attr="class","rcposting1mid"]
Surprise, surprise, the shoes were still expensive as fuck. However, being on one's feet all day meant you wore through soles fairly quickly, and shopping for a nice, quality pair of sneakers was essential for the blond's job. Having been through a twelve-hour shift starting at five yesterday morning, he'd come to the sad realization that he was in need of new shoes already. His current pair had lasted him for a good handful of months, but it was still a somewhat annoying problem that never went away, like a fly that kept buzzing around and never seemed to die. It certainly wasn't the bane of his existence, and he knew there were much greater things in life to concern oneself with, but he'd much rather be spending his day reading a good book than shopping for the same old apparel. [break][break] Fortunately for Warren his typical schedule consisted of working every other day, which meant he didn't have to worry about heading back in until tomorrow. Well, unless he was called in, but he'd found that in a city as large as Seattle, there were others who usually took the bait first before he'd even known about it being on the line. He didn't mind. He enjoyed the stability of things, and even if it was a bit repetitive (and boring), it kept the stress away. It meant he could wander around without having to constantly check his phone or worry about being late somewhere, and he was alright with a life as calm as his currently was. Perhaps it was how different it was from how it'd been back in Kentucky that had him so content. Whatever the reason, there were definitely no complaints being voiced. [break][break] There was, however, a small sound of surprise breaking free. Having just stepped out of the shoe-store, Warren had been briefly caught up in looking at his belongings, making sure the receipt was in the bag with the box, and his wallet was back in his pocket where it belonged with everything in its rightful place, and, ah, he just... hadn't fully been aware of his surroundings. It was his fault, really, that they'd accidentally crashed into each other. With the tug of gravity, the plastic bag crinkled and made a loud thump as it landed on the sidewalk. Rather than still caring for his new purchases, Warren had instead opted to reach out, grabbing hold of the small figure he'd collided with. At least he hadn't made him fall over. [break][break] "Shoot, I'm sorry," he said immediately, quickly skimming a look over the other's frame to make sure nothing was amiss before meeting eyes. To say he was taken off-guard by what he saw would be an understatement. Not only did this young man have quite the interesting prosthetic limb, but his eyes, his eyes. Warren had never seen a color like them before. They were astonishingly beautiful, and for a second it felt as if he were being drawn in by their warm, unique depths. Another second and he mentally shook himself free, however reluctantly. Now was not the time to be entranced. Later on he would probably look through books he'd kept from years of studying, and google "rose-colored eyes," but for now there were more pressing matters. [break][break] Smiling slightly, though his brow was still scrunched with concern, he asked, "Are you okay?" He noticed with some chagrin that he was still holding onto the smaller's upper arms and he let go, taking a step back so he could retrieve his bag from the ground. "I wasn't looking where I was headed. I didn't mean to run into you like that." The faint smell of smoke clung to the man and he subtly wrinkled his nose, having never really been a fan of the scent of tobacco since he was a young child. He especially didn't care for it now, being in the health occupation and whatnot, but it really wasn't his business to interfere with. They were, after all, just strangers who'd happened to cross paths.

What part of 'bite me' don't you understand?
[attr="class","CIVILIAN"] WHAT I MEAN BY TRACINGPAPER'S THAT YOU'RE SEE-THROUGH AND DISPOSABLE The man who stood before him, well he made Zero completely speechless for a moment. Sure, he'd found Everett to be one attractive dude, but this blond before him was just… something else. Could eyes be beautiful? Hm. It seemed like he wasn't alone in the silent staring, however Zero felt that maybe he might be imagining such a thing. As much as Everett told him otherwise, he truly doubted he was anything special to look at. The man before him, for all he knew, could simply just be thinking of how to yell at him.
Shaking his head, Zero brushed his fingers of his free arm through his hair. "Ah… yes. I'm aight. Fine. Wasn't really expecting to walk into a wall or anything. Er, are you… alright?" Like his small frame could do much harm, but it was polite to ask… Right? Flicking his rose-gold gaze towards the hand that was still on his arm, he looked a bit curious before the male removed his hold on him. "Sorry you dropped your bag. Nothing breakable right? I wasn't watching where I was going either. Guess we are both at fault." With that statement, he brought his gaze back up towards the taller's face.
As subtle as Warren may have been, Zero still managed to take notice of that tiny nose scrunch. Was the man noticing the scars that littered his face? Perhaps he was repulsed by the look of this complete stranger. Humming quietly, he pushed his hands into his jacket pockets, averting his eyes away. As a few moments passed, something crossed his mind while the silence continued. Why did this man look so familiar to him?
A memory of a drunken night crossed his mind, his face filled with a blush. It couldn't be, could it? Bringing his gaze slowly back towards Warren's he pressed his lips into a thin line. "You know… I think we have met before." Cocking his head to the side, Zero raised a curious eyebrow. "However, it has been years, so I might be completely wrong."

[attr="class","civilian"] [nospaces] [attr="class","rcposting1top"] [attr="class","rcposting1img"] [attr="class","rcposting1img2"] [attr="class","rcposting1mid"]
Something about this guy was strangely familiar and Warren just couldn't put his finger on it. Was it the notable height difference, his pretty sunset eyes, those scars that lined his rather charming features? Warren could feel his cheeks beginning to warm already, and it'd only been a matter of moments since they'd literally crashed into each other's lives. What on earth was it? Perhaps he'd seen him at the hospital once or twice, or simply on the side of the street while walking the city. Admittedly he was ashamed of himself for not being able to remember a time and place of meeting this man before, if he really had. He was too eye-catching, in various ways, to be even remotely forgettable. [break][break] He nodded a few times, finally freeing his leather-clad arm so he could grab his belongings. "Yes, yes, I'm... more than alright, honestly," he said, trailing off a bit as he straightened back up and met the stranger's eyes again, apparently caught in their magnetic field. They truly were hypnotizing. Realizing he was staring again, the blond shook his head a bit, then repeated the motion in a stronger act of reassurance. "No. Luckily these shoes are made for just about anything. They have to be, when you're on them all day." He smiled and sniffled a bit, the breeze that brushed past them taking with it the smell of smoke that clung to the other. As it died away, the scent returned, but with it something else that was oddly warming to the soul. He found he didn't mind it, not one bit. [break][break] Taking note of the color climbing up into the smaller's pale cheeks, Warren couldn't help but lift a brow, an expecant look on his face. Had he missed something? Oh, well that wasn't what he'd been anticipating. He wasn't the only one who felt they knew the other. "You think so too?" he said, the words escaping his mouth before he could put a stop to them. The blush that'd faded from his own face returned and he cleared his throat, looking down at the bag in his hands before lifting his gaze back up. "No, I... I think you're right. I feel the same way. I..." His voice faded, the stare he was now casting upon the man no longer filled with admiration, but deep contemplation. There was no way... [break][break] Suddenly laughing, he had to lift a hand to his mouth to stop himself from making a complete and utter fool of himself (or, perhaps, making the other feel bad). "You didn't happen to be in Denver a few years back, with a concussion, and a little, uh..." He chuckled again and glanced off to the side, a grin lighting up his face. "'Under the influence' at the time, did you? With sunglasses on?" Focusing on him again, he knew he was right in his suspicions. This was definitely the same person. "I don't think your friend was much better off." Despite the amusement with which he spoke, there was no judgement in his voice. Even if it had been near four in the morning, there was nothing wrong with having a little fun with your buddies. That's what being young was all about.

What part of 'bite me' don't you understand?
[attr="class","CIVILIAN"] WHAT I MEAN BY TRACINGPAPER'S THAT YOU'RE SEE-THROUGH AND DISPOSABLE
It seemed so foreign to Zero how calm the man before him was; in all honesty, the man seemed very… kind? There wasn’t many people who could leave the shorter male speechless, yet here was this man before him doing just that. Everett was another story, he’d known him for god knows how long, but Zero knew that even though his best friend could be extremely stupid, he was no doubt a very attractive man.
Was it possible for the color on his face to brighten even more? Maybe it was paling instead; the heat that seemed to fill his face told him the former was definitely a thing. Swallowing hard, Zero shoved his hands into his pockets and rocked back on his heels. “Ah. So you remember that, huh?” Of course, they probably made complete fools out of themselves back then. Honestly, he didn’t remember all too much of that night himself. “Not too surprised. Everett can’t hold his liquor any better than me. I’d like to think we’ve gotten better over the years.” Zero was mostly talking to himself than the blond at this point.
Sighing quietly, Zero lifted his gaze up towards Warren, slowing reaching a tentative hand out. “Guess I should apologize if we did anythin’ stupid or, uh, if I said anything stupid. Don’t remember much. Concussion was a bit of a bitch.” Pressing his lips into a thin line, he continued. “Zero, by the way.” He wasn’t really sure that the blond would remember his name, or if he even did know his name back then. It had been a while, surely he wouldn’t.

[attr="class","civilian"] [nospaces] [attr="class","rcposting1top"] [attr="class","rcposting1img"] [attr="class","rcposting1img2"] [attr="class","rcposting1mid"]
Bingo. Warren fought hard not to laugh some more, nodding in confirmation. Yep, he did indeed remember that rather interesting night. Between this man and--who must've been Everett, going off of what he said--his evening's companion, the ER had been filled with some of the best action he'd seen in a month's time. Of course they always got crazy patients, those who got their feet stuck in doors and... other things stuck in other places that he'd rather not reflect upon, but it was rare to get a pair as utterly hilarious as those two were together. With the alcohol, their friendship, and that night's events all piled together, it was the perfect recipe for a shift filled with humor on the nurse's end. [break][break] "Practice makes perfect. I wouldn't doubt y'all have gotten at least a little better with time." He smiled warmly, the Southern drawl of his accent still buttery smooth even after all these years, but his amusement remained plain as day across his face. It seemed that he and his friend must've been pretty close if they were still holding drinks to each other. What a funny coincidence that they'd all ended up in the same city. Lowering his eyes to the hand slowly extending out his way, Warren blinked widely, just now noticing how rude he'd been. Admittedly he'd been caught up in quite a few things since they'd bumped into each other, but still, that was no excuse for not properly introducing himself. [break][break] Shaking his head, the blond took his hand in his own, giving it a gentle shake. The metallic glint of Zero's other limb caught his eye, but now that things were coming back to him--slowly, yet surely--he remembered that little fact about him as well. This individual had been an eye-catcher for a number of reasons. "No. Not that I remember, at least. All I can say about that night is you both gave me a good laugh. Nothing to complain about there." He nodded out of habit, but the name he gave him hardly came as a surprise. That, too, had been caught in his memory. It was simply too unique, and when combined with such an experience there was no chance of truly forgetting it. [break][break] "I do recall putting your name in the system. I've never had another 'Zero,' before." With a touch of pink in his cheeks, he pulled his hand back. Chagrin filled his features for various causes. "I'm Warren. It's nice to... formally meet you this time around." Clearing his throat, he looked down at the bag in his grip, then back up. "Say, would you like to grab a coffee with me? I could use the caffeine, and some good company would be welcome." He was quick to put up a hand. "Don't feel like you have to, though. I understand I kind of just tumbled into your day's routine, I don't mean to be throwing you off even more than I already have."

What part of 'bite me' don't you understand?
[attr="class","CIVILIAN"] WHAT I MEAN BY TRACINGPAPER'S THAT YOU'RE SEE-THROUGH AND DISPOSABLE
With each word that the blond before him spoke, the more he heard the accent that came with it. Eyebrows raised as he let himself get slightly distracted by it; he hadn’t really suspected the man to sound so… southern. It kinda suited him, didn’t it? Wait, no. No, stop that, he barely knew him, how would he know this!
Blinking, Zero came out of his thoughts, frowning a bit when Warren confirmed that he definitely didn’t remember them doing anything all too stupid; they just sourced amusement for the taller male. Well, it was better than embarrassing himself, right? More often than not, Zero wasn’t all too concerned about what others saw of him; people could think he was a terrible person for all he cared. Yet, he really didn’t like re-meeting people he did embarrass himself in front of.
So it was a bonus he didn’t with Warren, huh?
Lips twitched upwards, rubbing the back of his neck as he looked off to the side for a moment. “Ah, yeah I suppose you’re right. No normal person has a name like mine, that’s for sure.” Rose-gold eyes flashed with a sort of sadness for merely a second before he pushed it aside, bringing his gaze back towards Warren. “Warren, huh?” His next few words, an invite to coffee, took the man by surprise. Rocking back on his heels, he pursed his lips for a moment, thinking about this. Good company, huh? “Personally, I wouldn’t say I’m good company, but I can’t really turn down an offer with that accent of yours.” Flashing a half-smile, Zero took a deep breath, deciding then that he would take this chance. Everett said he needed to make more friends than just him.
“Ain’t got much else to do today, lead the way, Warren.”
