The hours of pitch black were always the most adventurous. Sure the street lights didn’t make it completely dark, but it gave a calm setting that it made it that much better. Downtown was quieter during this time, most people having hit the haystack or decided to bundle up and get cozy in their homes with family or friends. It was the time of night where things could really go down; criminals could have the advantage in the shadows of the night.

Stuffing his hands in his pockets, Zero let his eyes trail around the area around him as he walked towards a bar he’d passed by a few times in the last few days. It was one he’d wondered if he should bring Everett around to when they went bar hopping next; the last time had been an utter blast. A soft hum passed his lips as the bar came into sight, zipping up the leather jacket he had on as he came up to the door.

“Do you have ID?” A gruff looking male towered over him, a brow raised in question, clearly wondering why a teenager would think they could get inside.

With lips pressed into a thin line, Zero dug out his wallet, showing the man that he was indeed of age. A very skeptical look entered the man’s eyes, but allowed the small male entrance. Slipping in, Zero’s mood shifted a bit. As crowded as it was, the aura of the place was almost relaxing. Surveying, he moved his way towards a spot near the bar, leaning against the empty table there before catching a server’s attention for a drink. So far this place seemed pretty decent.

Wren’s no stranger to busy nights at the bar- it’s a popular location on this end of town, and money-laundering front or not, it’s as successful as any bar like it with its good food and remarkable service.

Wren, of course, is much to blame for their success, much as he’d hate to admit it- his looks and charm had drawn more than one customer through their doors, and despite his best efforts to be discreet about his whereabouts, he’s not exactly the most difficult person to find in a crowd. Standing well over six feet with a hardy physique to match, Wren sticks out like a sore thumb in the crowd of drunken partygoers- but he keeps a smile on his face, dark circles aside, and takes his place amongst the masses armed with fresh rounds of drinks for the party of young women who’d apparently chosen this bar as their preferred spot for a bachelorette party.

Several of them coo in his direction- he's not unaware of his own looks, and he's certainly not oblivious to the fact that people tend to find him...cute. (Although he can't always understand their judgement- who would choose a man who looked like he hadn't slept in six months over someone who actually looks like they have their life together? And do people hit on him because he's simply available? Because he's an easy target? The charming bartender with the inviting smile?)

He nods politely when the herd of drunken women compliment his arms, of all things, and only barely manages to slip away with discomfort in his gaze once he’s managed to fight his way through their reaching hands and cooing voices. For once, he’s fairly happy when he sees a smaller man- smaller is definitely the word to use here- beckoning to him for an order. ”Hey,” he begins with a personable smile. The man doesn’t look particularly intimidating, but Wren can never be too careful. ”What can I get you?”

Brushing his fingers over the material of his jacket, he let his eyes travel over the bar, taking in the people and the atmosphere of the place. It would probably be more enjoyable if he had another person at his side, a friend to keep him company; yet it was also nice to just get out by himself. Having some down time without having to force himself to be around another human being was pretty nice. He could see two people dancing close together, seeming to be having the time of their lives; someone else was standing nearby, seeming to be recording them. They barely looked of age, but as the bouncer seemed to imply without saying it directly, neither did Zero.

The male ran a hand over his neck, his thumb slowly brushing over the feather inked into his skin, letting out a long breath. It wasn’t until a voice echoed out that he brought his eyes to the man who was speaking to him. Up close, he wasn’t sure what he was expecting when he beckoned for someone. Maybe smaller in stature and build; most bartenders or servers he’s come across didn’t seem so…

Intimidating.

Raising a single brow, Zero was silent for a moment as he took Wren in. He himself didn’t look as matcho like this guy did, but he could do… well with holding his own. A small hum passed his lips before he spoke. “Ah, any way i can get a strong rum? With a hint of coke or pepsi?” No better way to have a drink than to almost have it straight, right?

By now, Wren should be used to the stares -- he gets them too often to be normal and his patented technique of redirecting the situation has proved to be useful time and time again. Don’t pay attention to me, he thinks, I’m not important. Just your average, every-day bartender who can deadlift two-hundred and fifty pounds without breaking a sweat.[break][break]

Wren tilts his head, smiling pleasantly. So far, the newcomer doesn’t look too intimidating -- in fact, he doesn’t look much older (or taller) than a teenager. Wren might be morally corrupt, but he’s not that bad of a bartender -- so before he pulls out the pad of paper tucked into his back pocket and the pen secured behind his ear, he holds out a hand. ”Can I see your ID?”[break][break]

Wren doesn’t often card people -- he’s fairly good at guessing an individual’s age based on looks alone, but he can’t be too sure that this individual is twenty-one years old. ”Policy, man. Gotta get everyone.” Wren smiles good-naturedly -- he doesn’t wanna scare the customer off, but he also can’t write this man off as harmless -- because he knows, from experience, that the ones who seem harmless are the worst ones around. He’ll make his rounds, serve drinks, but tonight he’s going to be sure to get this guy to talk to him -- just in case. He can never be too careful.

To be honest, it wasn’t too surprising for Zero to be approached by the more burly males whenever he goes out alone like this. Whenever he was with Everett, nobody nagged him for his ID or gave him those odd looks. It made sense most of the time that obviously he was older if he was with someone who looked older. Whenever he was alone, he more often than not stuck out like a sore thumb. Really, it was just simply annoying.

Dragging his gaze to look right at those suspicious eyes, Zero trailed his tongue over his teeth, letting out a very long and annoyed sigh. “Seriously?” He grumbled as he pulled his wallet out of his pocket, mumbling over his breath. “Stupid.” As he looks him dead in the eye, the smaller male just drops his ID right beside Wren’s hand, having a challenging look enter his eyes. He wasn’t going to give this guy the easiest time now. He wants his ID? He can pick it up himself. Leaning back slightly, he let out a quiet hum, wondering how interesting this night was going to get. Would the bartender give him his drink? Would he believe the age that was printed on the ID?

Time was going to tell, now wasn’t it?
